Obama's Hosting Halloween party for 2,000 children at White House

DC area children: get your costumes ready.

On Saturday, the President and the First Lady will host a Halloween party at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave for 2,000 lucky children from D.C., Maryland and Virginia. Specific schools were chosen by the White House and the Department of Education to be guests of the First family at their first Halloween bash.

School children and their families will be able to trick-or-treat at the front door of the White House at the North Portico.

The health-conscious First Lady will be providing healthy treats as well as some good old fashioned candy.

In the evening there will be a Halloween reception for military families and children of White House and Residence Staff hosted by the President, First Lady, Vice President, and Dr. Biden.

:toast: We had a little Halloween parade in front of our co-op today on the street parallel to Main St..and all the little kids came by in their costumes with their parents in tow. So cute:7

And, to have more Military Families at a Reception in the evening with the Bidens is just one more very good way to be involved with our heroes.

I met this young mother, she was Black. Hated Harry Potter and Halloween. She said, "That is fearing false Gods and demonic rituals. Her children will never participate in such acts." That freaked me the hell out.

Religious fundamentalism doesn't differentiate between skin color. Plenty of fundamentalists out there of races and religions. It's not like ALL black people march in lockstep behind Obama.

24. I'll explain.

I've never seen it before in Harlem. This was actually the first time I came across it. I've seen people talk about this and proclaim from the rooftop but I always saw it as something seperate. Kind of this weird backward view of the world with a religious zeal. It also be because I'm Haitian and I live in a Black/Hispanic community, and although Catholic there's this healthy dose of superstition and mysticism. So stuff like that was always a norm. I was like 15 then...and I was like...WTF. It blew my mind.

Added to that...I know very well not all Black people like or even voted for Obama. I know too well. In Harlem, there was a lot of shit going down about him and he was called a "pimp" by many around my way. That wasn't my point in the post. My point was, that due to his choice in having the Halloween party, a few in the Black community would be crazy against it. I definitely could see it in one community in Queensbridge (Queens) predominantly African American and some of whom I know who are religious zealots.

Basically I'm speaking in regards to the surprise I find within my community over certain things. Not in the world or national sphere. If it's more clear. And it would go in a more racial tinge since I am Black and I personally at times find these things odd (the dislike of Obama was no surprise and doesn't fall within that category---choice is something else).
