PHOTO Code Pink 'taunt' local school children at the White House??
Edited on Sat Oct-31-09 06:17 PM by Jackeens
...according to this Reuters caption:

Members of the protest group Code Pink taunt local school children with chants about the war in Afghanistan as the children and their families arrive for a Halloween reception by U.S. President Barack Obama and his family at the White House in Washington, October 31, 2009.

Jeez, I know Code Pink's methods are sometimes, well, different....but I somehow doubt they were 'taunting' kids today.

54. It's pretty clear
that zealous activists have no sense of anything or of anyone but their message. I wonder if they realize it's like the PTA people where they turn off so many more people than they are gaining?

Dovetailing on a kids event to get out a message. Totally inappropriate an disgusting. Religious zealots, and activists.....I see no difference. Neither have a sense of boundaries and neither has a place in my life. Their message is totally lost in the overbearing actions.

24. I would think
tacky and classless would be sending more americans to die in a war no one wants or understands.

Yeah maybe these people could have taken a day off but is the death and destruction in afghanistan getting a day off? Did all those young men and women over there get to come home today and be with their families? Is this alleged holiday more important than human lives being wasted?

I'm sorry but the truth doesn't need a day off since it's been on holiday long enough. And if the truth makes some people uncomfortable then too bad maybe they should speak up too then the code pinkers wouldn't need to make a nuisance of themselves all the time. IMO this government forfeiting our young is the message these kids need to hear/see since one day it may be their neck in the noose for no good reason. Think about that before you get all offended.

THEY NEED TO KNOW!

Much better to teach our children NOT to glorify war NOW than when they are in High School and within reach of the tentacles of the ROTC recruiters.

I'm not a huge fan of code pink and frankly I've found some of them to be impolite and counter-productive during some hearings I've attended.

That being said, I doubt they intentionally came to taunt school children. More likely they were picketing the White House just like every other day and there happened to be children coming to the White House that day.

74. At that White House at 8:00 p.m. last week...
Not inside, mind you, but out in Lafayette Square. And there were two protesters -- one from a group has been camped there since the early 1980's and another guy with a bullhorn was keeping up this nonstop monologue on no subject in particular.

The point here is that there are protesters outside the White House pretty much 24/7 and even though I think Code Pink spends most of its time "over the line" in its protests, this is probably a case of their being at the White House at the same time the kids were arriving.

66. I don't see anyone taunting kids in that photo
I am willing to be proved wrong, so feel free to enlighten me as to where the taunting is seen.

72. Thank you Code Pink!
Sorry but I don't think the violence over in our two theaters of war has taken a day off for Halloween.

If you go to the white house on Halloween during wartime you may see some war protesters. Accept that.

I doubt the kids even realized Code Pink were protesting anything. At least in this photo the kids seem undaunted.

Code Pink is a courageous group, and I find it appalling that DUers of all people are throwing them under the bus for this.

73. A lot of people bitching over nothing.
"There are kids at the White House"

Well shit, there are kids in Afghanistan and Pakistan being killed by airstrikes, drones, and suicide bombers.

78. Losers. No need to do that with the children around.
