Which is better for us in NY-23? A loss or a win?
Edited on Tue Nov-03-09 02:41 PM by Perky
While I agree that it would benice to win a GOP Leaning district....particualrly this on given the Tea Party Activism pushing out the Moderate Nominee, It is a short term bennie with little consequence, A Tea Party win on the other end might push more people out of GOP or might force them to push back and have a sort of bloodletting we have not seen in American Politics in a very long time...if ever. That strategically has a lot of value. Having some Tea Partyers with a little taste of power might be the best thing that has ever happened to us because it further hurts the GOP.

But by the same token havingn more DINOs in our midsts is the consequence is something a lot of us could not stomach.

So a weaker GOP but a broader Democratic Party?

1. Win
If we win, the dissent within the Republican party will continue. The RW nuts will blame Scozzafava for not endorsing the teabagger and instead throwing her support to the Dems.
The Repubs are scared of this bunch of RW nuts and will cave. We could expect more RW nuts getting Repub nominations.

5. Did you mean Dino?

Even the worst Dino agrees with us on some issues and is better than a Repub who disagrees with us on everything.

10. No, by win, I mean it is better for the Democrats to win. The GOP
and I mean any branch or wing of the GOP, can take a flying f' at the moon.

27. I thought I heard Keith or a guest say...
...that the 23rd would be redistricted into oblivion after the 2010 census. That person (Howard Fineman?) said that it's surrounded by Democratic districts. If such is the case, it won't matter next time.

4. A win is always better. However, making the Rethugs fight each other and
watching them shrink their tent is not all that bad.

11. Agreed.
I will not shed tears if Hoffman wins, which will embolden the teabaggers to pit a legion of freaks against the few reasonably sane Repugs are left in office. More importantly, it would be seen as a win for Palin, which works perfectly into the master plan. The best thing to happen for Obama/Dems is to have Palin be the SCARY face of the modern day GOP...in 2010 and beyond. Bring it BIZATCHES!

17. Agree
The second she says she's running, I'll write a check. I want her front and center of the 2012 election. No better way to have President Obama reelected. He could go on vacation for 6 months, sit back and watch her explode.

14. "More DINOs"? Please.........
..... that's the same attitude that is causing the GOP to implode right now. While I'm all for the Republicans fighting with one another, I do NOT like that attitude in the Democratic party. A win is a win is a win.

20. Yes

They are both absolutely delightful.

Right now ever intelligent Republican is on their knees hoping and praying they lose so that the fundie nut jobs don't feel emboldened.

From that point of view a narrow loss would be preferable.

25. A win
but whatever happens in NY 23 is a loss for the GOP. They can not even choose their own candidates and have to acquiesce to the demands of limpballs to support a candidate from ANOTHER Party.

26. Benefits either way.
If Owens wins then it is a win for a Dem in a Right-leaning district and a repudiation of the wacko right wingers.

If Owens loses, then it may embolden the wackos to declare on other moderate Republicans in other places in 2010 and shrink the GOP tent even more.

But I'd rather win.
