Creigh Deeds ran against a public option
Creigh's Depressing Comment On The Public Option

Obviously, that didn't work out well.

The natural inclination of some Blue Dogs will be to think that he didn't run far enough to the right. :banghead:

I wasn't in VA then

That was WITH Kaine helping him.

15. It ended
in a recount. Most Dems running for Gov. here always put a R next to their names, Kaine and Warner were both like that too. *sigh*

12. Doesn't matter to me one bit either
I don't live in Virginia, and I don't "buy" the idea that this is a barometer for 2010 or 2012. From everything I heard, Deeds was a horrible candidate, one that was expected to lose. The people spoke, and there you have it. Life will go on.

7. Those statements are as stupid as the ones made by repukes.
Yes, of course we need to "reduce costs and increase coverage"...but notice there was no thought given to how to do that!
Wave a magic wand maybe? He gives Democrats a bad name!

11. Well that explains it then
one of McDonells ads in Virginia showed Deeds flip flopping on tax, added to that
was his stupid comment on standing against Democrats on public option.

25. Not sure if we can count on a former opponent's brother's alleged anecdotal story, but...
Edited on Tue Nov-03-09 09:05 PM by ClarkUSA
Exit polls show that McDonnell won on the strength of independent voters choosing his positive message which borrowed heavily from President Obama's message, even to the extent of using campaign materials with the word HOPE printed in large type on the front, with no sign of the word "Republican" in sight. Ergo, he ran as a RINO and won.

23. Internal polling probably told Deeds that his favorable ratings among the Dem base sucked.
His campaign spurned all advice from Team Obama until then.

17. The question is why did Deeds run away from Obama so much?
Stupid strategy. I know Warner and Kaine were not exactly liberals either but VA went for Obama and still approve of him with an approval rating above 50%.

Terry McAuliffe did. But I thought Brian Moran was the best candidate...the most liberal too.

22. That's who I wanted
but he turned a lot of people off with being negative during the primary. Of course, Deeds ended up being negative and only negative, so much so that even democrats didn't know what he stood for.

24. Yup. Are you in VA?
I feel for you with McDonnell being your gov now. I have a Repub as a gov, Jodi Rell, but she is more of a moderate and probably would not win out of the northeast in a Repub primary.

30. Yeah, I hear you. You could come to CT and live near me but Joe Lieberman would be your senator.
McDonnell or Lieberman? Not the best of choices. Not to mention you would have a painfully long commute to work. I went to VA Beach with my husband once and we drove down from CT. Took us 10 hours because of a chemical spill on the highway. 7 hours would have been long enough. We did have a good time though.

32. I knew he was in trouble way early
If he was worth the effort you would have seen a ton of postings about him on GD or GDP, the high traffic forums.
But nope, hardly a peep unless it was something negative about himself or McConnell the eventual winner.

ATTN: Dems! Run against the Obama agenda and Obama's fans (like DU) won't support you! I know that sounds a little Bush-ian, but unless you've got better plans than he does, you better follow his script, or wind up like Deeds- unelected and out of office.

33. Deeds ran against the Democratic party
He tried that inside the beltway conventional wisdom that he should "run to the center" just like days of yore. For the last time:

if you don't embrace the populist liberal notions of the Democratic party and run as a "not republican" you'll LOSE.

How many times do those idiots have to learn this lesson? Differentiate and celebrate what you are, people will vote for you. Pretend you're not a liberal, they won't.

Deeds is little better than a Republican himself. Va might as well have the real thing than some pale replica of a Republican.
