UPDATE:

NY-23: Watertown Mayor: ‘It’s Over’
By David Weigel 11/3/09 10:50 PM

SARANAC LAKE, N.Y. – I caught Watertown, N.Y., Mayor Jeff Graham, who endorsed NY-23 Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman this weekend, looking very glum at Hoffman’s election party. I asked him what happened in Jefferson County, where Watertown is located, and where Democrat Bill Owens is leading the vote.

“We lost,” said Graham. “The Scozzafava endorsement, the endorsement of Owens–I mean, they roughed Hoffman up.”

Could Hoffman still pull out a win? Graham grimaced. “It’s over.”

27. I heard there are 10K absentee ballots (sorry, can't remember where heard it.)
Could that possibly be true?

It worries me, since many of those could be DS votes that would now have gone to Owens.

37. Strategically, winning VA and NJ but losing NY-23 is the best outcome for Republicans
The candidates who ran to the center won, but the crazed teabagger who forced a moderate Republican out managed to turn a district blue that has voted Republican since forever. Logically, this should suggest that moderation is the path to success.

Fortunately for us, the far right wingnuts are too deranged to care. This will just enrage them against RINOs even more.

48. Let the tea baggers gloat.
In my state, we are as red as they come. Yet, we have had several Democrat Governors in the last few years. Ben Nelson being one of them. We never get the democrat senators and house reps. Having Ben in (I voted for him), has it's good points and bad points, all in all, he does side Dem, so having him there in this very Red state is better then no Dem at all. I think NY 23 can be looked at the same way. Doesn't matter if you have a Republican or a Democrat governor, that's your state's problem. The real power is in the reps we all choose for Washington.

Think of it this way... For some strange odd reason, Sarah Palin got elected to a position she obviously was never qualified for. But hey, up there in Alaska, they loved her. As for the rest of America, even the conservatives are smart enough to know when to leave the room when the party idiots arrive to go and fuck it up for them. I really do honestly believe Sarah's extremist views drew away alot of people.

50. We've had many
Republican governors in CA in the past few election cycles but the State has gone for Clinton, Gore, Kerry, Obama.

Whoever sits in the Governors mansion can use the bully pulpit on the National scene but that does not mean the people of that state will necessarily follow those recomendations.
