How do you get people to vote

that's what our problem was yesterday. Many people simply did not care. What exactly motivates people to vote? I'm particularly interested in the Democratic "bases" of the under 30 voters and minorities.

I'd like to know for future elections.

1. first, you run better candidates than GOP vs. GOP LITE (tm)

Greer's collapse should make every blue dog nervous. In fact, we should take to writing every blue dog, IN PAPER (e-mails tend to get less attention) and tell them that Greer's centrism and blue dog tendencies killed his chances.

3. Jjust depending on finding Charismatic Candidates is a loser and

will send us into the wilderness for years to come. Folks,
there just are not that many charismatic people.

The answer is a strong party apparatus in which rank and file
Democrats believe they are a part. This requires work and I
mean work. People have to believe that putting a Democrat
in office is most important. This means the Democratic Party
has to show rank and file Americans they can lead .
Republicans go to the polls because they believe in Republicanism.
They believe any Republican is better than letting a Democrat
win.

Republicans are in constant contct with their activists. They
do not look down on them as many Dems on the Hill.

Democrats on the Hill have to become a whole lot better at
getting on TV and explaining in detail what it is they
are trying to do. Give a common sense explanation why this
is a good thing.

No one has really explained the stimulus or health care.
Look, we know but that is because we eat and sleep politics.
Right now, Our party is permitting the GOP to define our
Health Care Insurance. The people are getting the GOP version
which is a negative view of stimulus. They had better get
going with. We Democrats believe ------ and this is how
we are tackling this problem -------/

When taking an action, there must be a logical common sense
explanation. Hiding behind--this is too complex-- is the same
as calling the American people stupid. Insult them and you
really get their vote (sarcasm). Explain and get them on your
side is the key. Congress has the habit of looking sneaky for
this very reason. Wait until it is almost too late to make
changes before telling people what is going on. Call the
GOP out on their lies.

Obama supporters didn't show up because the dem governor candidates who were running sucked and did not inspire to save their assses.

I'm now seriously worried for my state right now. the early results have an even lower turnout than 2001 or 2005. I walked the streets telling people to vote. I don't know what more we can do to get people to vote. It's incredibly frustrating.

11. On an off year, for Governorships? A local issue that really effects people.

I am not under 30 though I am 33. People come out when they truly care about something and that is hard to do when it is just a Governor's race.
