Bill Clinton & George W. Bush to Debate - Feb, 2010???
LINK:

ARTICLE:

Bill Clinton and George. W. Bush have agreed to a smackdown at Radio City Music Hall.

Well, there is not likely to be any head butting, but the two former presidents have agreed to debate foreign policy, economics and other issues of the day on the same platform on Feb. 25, 2010, according to MSGS entertainment, which bills the event as "The Hottest Ticket in Political History."

The debate, which will include a question-and-answer segment with an as-yet unnamed moderator, is part of MSG's speaker's series known called "Minds That Move the World."

Melissa Ormond, MSG's chief operating officer, says the event will be "an informative and empowering experience" that will also " encourage people to engage in continued dialog surrounding the most significant current events of our day," The New York Daily News reports.

While the two former presidents have shared a stage before, in Toronto in May, the Radio City Music Hall will be their highest profile venue.

Tickets will range from $60 to $1,250, with the upper-end including a cocktail reception before the event.

My money is on Bill. WTH? What is the point of this?

1. This is the second time they've done this well-paid circus act. Poppy must be proud of his boys.

If the weather's good, maybe they'll all meet up afterwards for a golf game.

3. They've done this before?
And apparently it must be like watching an NFL pre-season game. I'm sorry to hear this.

5. When was the first time??
Why didn't I hear about it? W. must have paid a lot of people to keep the first one quiet.... ?

Back in'91 I know Poppy & Bill debated... but I don't ever recall W. & Bill going at it... and i'm not quite sure I get the gist at this late stage? If Bill loses, does Obama just have to walk away? If W. Loses, does Rush never go on air again? What are the STAKES?! :)

6. It wasn't a debate it was a "conversation".

I'm glad Clinton is doing this. If this is a real debate this time look for the Big dog to hand * his ass.

9. What would they debate? Clinton used his 2004 book tour to DEFEND Bush's decisions on Iraq war

and terrorism and, even as late as 2007, agreed with Bush's bellicose policies towards Iran and Syria.

So....Bill changed his mind and NOW disagrees with Bush?

11. You're right. Some underinformed Dems actually THINK Bush and Clinton had opposing views
Edited on Wed Nov-04-09 01:33 PM by blm
on foreign policy and Iraq war - I remember clearly how Clinton not only supported Bush's policies, but, even used his 2004 book tour to vigorously DEFEND Bush's decisions in every high profile interview he participated in at the time.

Bill didn't find much to disagree with until it came time for his wife to run a primary race - and, even then, that disagreement was more show than substance.

12. Clinton did not invade Iraq in 1998
even when the Rumsfeld crew tried to convince him to do so.

Besides, there are other issues to debate other than foreign policy, in which the two are actually quite different. I'm not expecting you to believe me because of your blind vitriol, but at least the fact has been said.

13. I'm well aware of what went down in 1998 - Clinton didn't invade because the ALLIES wouldn't join
Edited on Wed Nov-04-09 03:44 PM by blm
a military invasion then. If they would have joined him, then he WOULD have invaded. And, you avoided any mention of Clinton's full support of Bush's decision on Iraq. Support that was on the same page as Joe Lieberman and his wife.

But, I'm not expecting many to remember 1998 or even 2004 because of blind loyalty to a myth - but at least the pertinent facts have been stated CORRECTLY.

16. ok, show me
show me evidence that Clinton "would" have invaded if he had allied support.

I'm really, quite curious, how you know that.

to know more about our past actions that led up to our current policies there. (see BCCI, IranContra, Iraqgate, CIA drugrunning).

This analysis from Congressional Research mentions US's inability to get allies interested in a wider invasion. Clinton did get cooperation from Britain for TARGETED strikes.

BTW - what do you THINK 1998 Iraq Liberation Act was all about, anyway? What did 'regime change' mean to you and how did you think it was going to happen?

22. "Regime change" meant wishful thinking that the Iraqis would do it themselves
Congress passes all sorts of idiotic legislation expressing their support for policies that they would never actually implement if they were President. For example, they passed a resolution with overwhelming bipartisan majorities supporting NATO membership for Ukraine and Georgia. Even the crazy neocons in the Bush Administration were not crazy enough to actually give Georgia and Ukraine NATO membership, however.

23. That's what WE wished regime change meant. That bill didn't happen in a vacuum.
Edited on Thu Nov-05-09 03:58 PM by blm
Plus...you'd have to ignore the fact that the ILA came after months of Clinton trying to convince our allies to join a fuller military action.

And, you know full well that Congress proceeded with the Iraq Liberation Act to support and cover for Clinton's hand in case he decided to go it alone without the allies. It's disingenuous to imply that the ILA came about in Congress for no particular reason with no real intentions attached.

2. My God, is Vegas in on this
I will raise some money and place my bet. Hell, I would take Bill at double the juice.

This will be a bloodbath. A policy wonk and great speaker like the Big Dawg; and an ignorant, English-butchering frat boy in a debate? My God, Dubya will be hitting the bottle hard on that night.

15. It's been cancelled
UPDATE: The debate between Bill Clinton and George W. Bush has been canceled "because the promoter overhyped it as a death-match faceoff between the men," according to the New York Post.

"This event ... was supposed to be a discussion between the two former presidents, and has been canceled because it was not being billed as such by an overeager promoter," a Clinton spokesman said.
