They act as if the party is mainly Blue Dogs all I've heard this morning is the election results will slow down health care in the party because of Moderate Democrats the party is mainly Progressives even though some haven't been acting like it lately

The media has been very careful not to cover them extensively, that's all.

2. And politics isn't about a few independents, except it is
The swing group that provides the margin of victory is important.

Every election starts out 40%-40%. How will the other 20% vote?

They are only 20% but they make all the decisions.

Same with congress. Progressives vote Yes and Pugs vote No. "Moderate" Dems are a minority but they make all the decisions.

So, unfortunately, it really is all about them.

4. I agree to some extent.
The big picture in Congress is up to the Progressives or the Pugs, depending on which party has power. Make no mistake - we'd not be discussing HCR at all, or at least in starkly different terms if Republicans had control of Congress. It's a testament to what we're like in society in that we are completely dismissive of how important that really is.

The details - and how far towards the edges the agenda goes - is determined by the middle. Unfortunately, the details are reported on daily, while the changes in the big picture only happen on election day. This is why it seems so skewed.

3. As Thom Hartmann pointed out this morning (referencing the old Truman quote)
Democrats who run as DEMOCRATS win, "Democrats" who run as Repukes lose.

The DLC governors vs the gains in Congress. 'Nuff said.
