Fiorina officially announces Senate candidacy
Former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina on Wednesday officially announced her candidacy for U.S. Senate after months of speculation.

Fiorina will run as a Republican against Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) The ex-Silicon Valley executive's entrance into the campaign means that she will face conservative state Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R) in a June primary. The contest could set up another contentious GOP primary contest between a candidate favored by the base (DeVore) versus a candidate backed by the party establishment (Fiorina).

Fiorina, who served as a top adviser on Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) 2008 presidential campaign, announced her candidacy in an Orange County Register op-ed today. In it, she addressed concerns over unemployment and "too much spending in Washington."

She also took on the healthcare reform debate in Washington writing that "we should build on what works" instead of "remaking the entire healthcare system.

1. Two things:
1. President Obama is building on what he thinks works because he won't rebuild from scratch. Why is she mewling?

2. People remember how Carly wrecked HP (their products are still rubbish-grade shite) and got $21 million as a thank-you severance package for wrecking HP... (people also remember her comment about American workers, which alone speaks volumes about where her interests lie. And it's not with the state or people of California.)

2. I don't think she will survive the primary
The CA GOP is the craziest of the crazy. I don't think they are capable of nominating a woman.

3. I hope Fiorina does not get the nomnation because
she knows more about running a large complex corporation better than all
the other senators combined...most of who have never run anything. Carly
reminds of Ross Perot's business knowhow but without being crazy.

6. Are you serious?
She did about as good a job running HP as Bush did running the country.

7. haha
She knows how to ruin a large complex corporation better than all. She can't even be a successful campaign surrogate.

AIG, Bank of America, Citi bank, Enron, etc, then Hewlett Packard
would have been bankrupt or needed massive doses of money from us
tax payers.

Note: H-P is still a thriving business.

10. Hewlett-Packard is a thriving business because they fired her.
When Fiorina ran H-P, the company's stock values fell to half their original value. 20,000 H-P employees lost their jobs, most of which she out-sourced to other countries. Meanwhile, she fought for the expansion of the H-1B visa program to bring in foreign employees. I'm sure that will go over well with her party. The quality of H-P products, which used to be the industry standards, suffered under her watch. Their printers and computers were all bloatware-infested crap. BTW, immediately after she was fired, H-P stocks went right back up again.

17. On the contrary.
She proved that women can be just as lousy managers as men can, and still lead their resume with their failures.

And being a senator is not an executive job- it is about being a representative and legislator. The corporate experience is no qualification.

If she gets the nomination, Boxer will win in a landslide.

11. Carlyfornication isn't going to go anywhere
She will appeal to centrists and independents in CA as much as her heroes McCain & Palin did.

12. I have a built in bias for women who have run a business
whether it be the corner grocery store, a cookie making company or a large
corporation. I have no use for any one who has a made a living all their life
as a politician. What has Palin done besides politics as mayor & governor? Nothing!

13. I thought you were going to say "I have a built in bias for women who have run a business"
"into the ground." If that was the case, Carly is your woman!

14. If you examine the facts, GM, ENRON, AIG etc are bankrupt.
Edited on Fri Nov-06-09 10:28 PM by Garam_Masala
H-P is thriving. If it was driven into the "ground" then it should
have ceased to exist or bankrupt. H-P has not even come close to bankruptcy.

Just because a corporations profits dwindled does not mean it has
been run into the ground. In many countless instances difficult steps
were taken which hurt the immediate bottom line but profited the
operation in the long run.

You and I do not have enough facts at our disposal to know what exact
steps were taken by Carly Fiorina during her reign as CEO to have hurt
or benefited H-P in the long run.
