35. People have laughed at us for decades as we warned that
birth control was at risk. We have all been told that birth control is safe and secure, and no way will our party ever let the anti-choicers block birth control. So we must be nuts if we really take the threat seriously. We're over-reacting. :eyes:

Just like we have over-reacted when we said that our party should not be letting in anti-choice candidates and accepting anti-choice compromises over and over and over again.

We have been right all along. When will people realize this and become militant enough to stand united with us against the anti-choicers, without exception, excuse or compromise? :grr:

38. Also when we warned that......
the "anit-abortion" movement is really about controlling people's sex lives (women esp).

If the anti-choice people really wanted to stop abortions they would be standing on corners handing out condoms, and promoting comprehensive sex education, and presureing for more birth-control options.

worrying, etc" just like "mein kampf" laid out exactly what hitler intended to do, there have been writings, speeches, and every blueprint laid out for how these people want to punish women for being women. (you notice in all their screeds, there is almost never anything about the man who is doing the impregnating)

it gives me no pleasure to say "I told you so"

61. Griswold is not subject to 'repeal!'
Its a Supreme Court Decision.

Griswold v. Connecticut, 381 U.S. 479 (1965),<1> was a landmark case in which the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the Constitution protected a right to privacy. The case involved a Connecticut law that prohibited the use of contraceptives. By a vote of 7-2, the Supreme Court invalidated the law on the grounds that it violated the "right to marital privacy".

Although the Bill of Rights does not explicitly mention "privacy," Justice William O. Douglas wrote for the majority that the right was to be found in the "penumbras" and "emanations" of other constitutional protections. Justice Arthur Goldberg wrote a concurring opinion in which he used the Ninth Amendment to defend the Supreme Court's ruling. Justice John Marshall Harlan II wrote a concurring opinion in which he argued that privacy is protected by the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. Justice Byron White also wrote a concurrence based on the due process clause.

63. The reason the US Const does not mention the work "privacy" is because....
...to the Founding Fathers, what that would have referred to was matters of "privy" which is a polite term used back then for the toilet and tasks connected thereto. However, the 4th Amend is clearly an issue of one's right to privacy.

If you outlaw contraceptives, only outlaws will have contraceptives. Soon outlaws will no longer be born, leaving only us law abiding people to reproduce. The logic is clear.

to give you some idea of just how insane they are--years ago, an artist in SF had an exhibit using decorated condoms. the exhibit was picketed and she was called a murderer--for using condoms as art!!

44. "days of the theocracy"
Days of the Theocracy
(Kristin Lems)
July 15, 2007
words and music by Kristin Lems c 2007 Kleine Ding Music (BMI)
Out of print for many years, I felt this was important enough that I allowed a free legal download of it from the freedom from religion site. Written in 1979....
1. First they fight abortion, birth control is next,
Then comes sex if you’re not married, finally, out goes sex
Put the prayers back in the schools, install parochiaid
Allow for corporal punishment, and then you got it made!

Chorus:

We’re going back, back to the good ole days
When men were really men and women knew their place
Back, back a couple of centuries
And welcome back the days of the theocracy

2. The family is so holy, there must be no divorce
And if a wife is not content, she must adjust, of course
And if he’s forced to beat her, it’s all for her own good
She must know what her limits are, as any woman should

3. The next to go is daycare, it’s all a commit plot
What could be more fulfilling than a child, wanted or not?
A woman’s work is housework, God wanted it that way
A salaried job degrades her since she never works for pay

Chorus

4. They teach us women’s lot is "love honor and obey"
And while their crusty notions seem like jokes to us today
They’re sitting in the Capitol, they’re voting on our lives
If we don’t stop them now, our freedom will not long survive

No going back..to the bad ole days...let's go ahead for future centuries,

And build a world that’s based on true democracy
And build a world that’s based on true equality
Ah – person!

Think about it and the health care reform:

Come out wanting to nationalize health care, all of it, make Doctors and nurses employees, nationalize hospitals, etc. AND THE OIL AND BANK INDUSTRIES, increase taxes 50% for people making over $1,000,000 a year and cut the military 60%...

Then we "negotiate down" to single payer.

59. Not news to me
heard of the "Quiverfull" movement?

They are attempting to shove the genie back in the bottle in the belief that a true risk of pregnancy every time will promote "virtue". Of course, what they fail to understand is that sex was not invented in the 1960s. Plenty of evidence exists to support the notion that a great number of people were regularly having out-of-wedlock sex for many centuries before contraception was invented. Surprise, surprise, people apparently enjoy sexual contact, go figure.

Because of this enjoyment, the politics will never support their position.
