GOP Rep. Deal, Candidate For Georgia Governor, Asking For Obama's Birth Certificate
Eric Kleefeld | November 5, 2009, 11:09AM

Rep. Nathan Deal (R-GA), a candidate in the GOP primary for Governor of Georgia, has announced that he is signing a letter to the White House with several of his colleagues -- asking for a copy of President Obama's birth certificate.

Deal made the announcement this morning in an online chat held by his campaign, when asked by Tom Crawford of the Georgia Report (subscription required):

{Comment From Tom Crawford}
Do you believe that Barack Obama is a native-born American citizen who is eligible to serve as president? I am asking because your comments on this issue have been a little ambiguous. I would appreciate your clearing this up.

Nathan Deal - I am joining several of my colleagues in the House in writing a letter to the President asking that he release a copy of his birth certificate so we can have an answer to this question.

Deal's campaign spokesman Harris Blackwood confirmed the authenticity of the chat to TPM, explaining the Congressman's comment: "There have been so many constituents, a lot of people have asked him, they ask him on the campaign trail. Let's just get an answer, that's all we're saying, not suggesting anything to the contrary."

5. Deal must think that Georgians like this. I say go for it.
I don't believe half of these guys are as stupid as they sound (with some notable exceptions, eg: Palin), but just want to throw their 'base' some 'red' meat.

I would invite them to continue, while praying that it doesn't work for them to garner more support. (Given my hope that, with time, as a country, we could get smarter than this crap)...

6. Another in a long line of Georgia's shameful idiots.
And this man has a law degree. He USED to be a Dem but he lives in the WHITEST, MOST BAPTIST part of the state.

Recently he said:

In October 2009, while talking about his role in legislation requiring proof of citizenship for federal and state medical care, at a meeting of the Cherokee County GOP, Deal said "We got all the complaints of the ghetto grandmothers who didn't have birth certificates and all that." Two days later he issued a statement saying "I regret my choice of words and in no way meant to offend anyone."

Also:
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) lists Deal as one of the 15 most corrupt members of Congress, for trying to influence officials for personal gain. According to the The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Deal "personally intervened with Georgia leaders to preserve an obscure state program that earns his company nearly $300,000 a year."

7. With all the problems this state has -- THIS is his concern?
The insanity never ends-- Oxendine and Handel are both Teabagger's, now we have a Birther.

In the mean time the state has over 10% unemployment and teachers are being furloughed I can see how the Birth certificate would be a concern of his.

Assknob.
