Teabaggers Gone Wild: A Dozen Demonstrators Arrested At Pelosi’s Office

A Dozen Demonstrators Arrested At Pelosi’s Office

Looks like the demonstrators really are serious about storming the Congressional barricades.

A dozen people were arrested this afternoon in or just outside of Nancy Pelosi’s office, some for unlawful entry and others for disorderly conduct, the Capitol Police confirm, adding that some of the arrested were throwing papers around.

Four demonstrators were arrested for refusing to leave her office in the Canon office building, and eight more were arrested for unlawful or disorderly conduct, Capitol Police spokesperson Kimberly Schneider tells our reporter, Amanda Erickson.

Apparently those who were arrested outside her office were also throwing papers in the hallway, the spokesperson says. It couldn’t immediately be determined what sort of papers the demonstrators were tossing out the door or why the paperwork ticked them off.

This is less serious than arrests at Pelosi’s office in the Capitol itself would have been, but a dozen for unlawful entry and disorderly conduct is definitely noteworthy. More soon.

U.S. Capitol Police arrested 10 people this afternoon

Sgt. Kimberly Schneider, public information office for the Capitol Police, told TPMDC they happened in the Cannon House building as tea partiers attempted to protest Speaker Nancy Pelosi about health care.

They were charged with unlawful entry (entering a Congressional office and refusing to leave when told to do so) and/or disorderly conduct (yelling in the hallway outside an office) at Room 235 in the Cannon House Office Building.

Room 235 is Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office for district business, not where she conducts her duties as Speaker. That's handled at an office in the Capitol building.

TPMDC happened upon a crowd that formed around two policy vans as the protesters were prepared for "transporting," according to one officer there.

Without those official details, protesters in the crowd watching the arrests were furious. They shouted "Let them go!" and one man yelled at the police that "Martin Luther King" was being dishonored and shouted "Letter from Birmingham Jail!"

11. Can you imagine?
How fast would the tear gas and rubber bullets fly if liberals broke into a Republican's office? They were only arrested after being asked to leave and refusing?

8. They conspired to cross state lines with the intent to riot, Chicago 7? 8?
So why not charge them with something like that? We may not like it, but their base hates people who are jailbirds.

9. Considering that the teabaggers rantings at the August Town Hall Meetings...
...resulted in a sizeable boost in the popularity of the Public Option (according to most polls), I'm all for this kind of displays of right-wing bad behavior.

12. This kind of shit makes me appreciate Speaker Pelosi.
She's been rock-solid on healthcare--much more so than Weak Kneed Harry Reid.
