NCGOP brings in Hoffman, NY candidate
Edited on Fri Nov-06-09 08:15 AM by ccharles000
The N.C. Republican Party is bringing in Doug Hoffman, the defeated conservative New York congressional candidate who helped spark a national debate about the party's future, to speak at a political fund raiser in Raleigh later this month.

State GOP Chairman Tom Fetzer said that Hoffman would be a good fit for Tar Heel Republicans, Rob Christensen reports.

"His candidacy in New York inspired conservatives across the country, and he will reach out to North Carolina conservatives to help us reclaim our government," Fetzer said in a statement.

Hoffman has been part of a national debate about what should be the party's stance toward moderates. The GOP leadership had nominated Dede Scozzafava for a U.S. House vacancy after President Barack Obama named Republican Congressman John McHugh as Army Secretary.

But her conservative credentials were criticized her because she favored abortion rights and same sex marriage. Hoffman, a local businessman, ran as a conservative party candidate, picking up the endorsement of such conservative luminaries as former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and TV personality Glenn Beck.

Scozzafava ended up withdrawing from the race and throwing her support to Democrat Bill Owens who won a congressional seat that had been in Republican hands for 100 years.

Hoffman and Palin. This is all they have. Also, it's funny to see the younger Republicans turn so hard to the right. They will implode the party. They don't realize how extreme they are I guess.

Edit: typo

5. This is not a bad idea for them
In a one on one race it will be close looking at the number that went for him and Dede, he has the campaign network set up, and if jobs do not come back by 11-10 the Dems will be in trouble.

7. Agreed
He'll be running again within the year, probably for the same seat. It's easy for him to blame his loss on the clusterfuck that this week's election was. He won't have to deal with the distraction of it next time around.

11. Just what the need
This guy had no plans to run for the seat. The conservatives got together and selected him. He is no fighter, he is no big awe inspiring guy. He just happened to not have anything to do at the time. Isn't it fun that the republicans latch on to some person who wants instant fame and they take it from there.

12. Hoffman has got to be one of the most incompetent public speakers ever.
95% of his financial support came from outside the district from people who'd never heard him utter a single word, but knew that Quittypants and BecKKK liked him.

His concession speech was a joke.

I hope the NCG-no-P aren't paying much for his services.
