We have 31Dems (DINO) confirmed naysayers for HCR - I hope we replace all of them with progressives

Of the 31 no votes, 25 are members who represent seats carried by McCain—10 of those members hail from districts where McCain won 60 percent or more of the vote. Three of the remaining six are freshmen Democrats sitting in seats that were Republican-held until 2008.

At least three committee chairmen—Rep. Bart Gordon (D-Tenn.), Rep. Collin Peterson (D-Minn.) and Rep. Ike Skelton (D-Mo.)—have also said they said they do not support the bill.

“While the House bill does take some positive steps toward increasing coverage and reforming insurance regulations, it simply falls short when it comes to lowering healthcare costs for North Florida families and businesses,” said Rep. Allen Boyd (D-Fla.) in a statement Saturday explaining why he would vote “no.”

1. See this poll - naysayers to lose Obama voters

The trick is to get good Dems in, rather than having teabaggers take advantage of the vacuum.

2. I'll cut slack to the ones in ultra blood red districts, but that's it
Bobby Bright gets a pass from me, but John Adler in New Jersey has no excuse.

19. As much as it pains me to say it, Adlers' district is blood red
or pretty close to it. McPalin won by a landslide here, as did bush both times. Not that I'm defending Adler, he's a self-serving asshole who won't be getting my vote again.

21. Here is the numbers on Adler's district
Edited on Sat Nov-07-09 06:56 PM by bluestateguy
There are no blood red districts in Jersey anymore. Light red? Yes, but not blood red. Adler's district voted for Obama, but narrowly for Bush in 2004.

8. Yeah, that's their headline. They keep adding to the numbers. They are so hoping to get enough no
votes that they can trumpet a failure for Obama.

10. Politico's article breathlessly but falsely reports that...
"Just nine more “no” votes would be enough to sink the bill if Republicans maintain, as expected, a solid front of opposition."

That's false. TEN more "no" votes would stop the bill. We can afford to lose 9 more Dems.

11. Why? By defeating a bad bill...
...they're doing the right thing, aren't they?

And thereby bringing the day when single-payer comes to the floor closer, right?

12. Right? No way
One of the reasons REpubs are so against this bill is that they don't want the camel to get his nose under the tent.

If we get some kind of public option now then it's possible that later this public option can become single payer.

At his point, we need to prove that we can get reform.

This bill would have no chance at all if we didn't already have Medicare.

And there is absolutely no way we could get single payer at this point in time.

14. Well, you're in a minority here.
The official DU line is that we could have had single payer by Labor Day if only President Kucinich wanted it bad enough.

23. I've been around long enough to know that I can't always
get all that I want!

I remember when I was dumb enough to think that it was better for Southerners to be "honest" and be REpubs rather than Dems.

Then I learned that the Southern Dems who were racist actually voted for some good programs that helped middle class people. For example, it was an Alabama Dem who helped sponsor the National Defense Education Act that provided me with a 3% loan for college. Half my loan was forgiven because I taught school for 5 years.

I don't think the Southern Repubs would EVER vote for something that helped people. They funnel loans through private companies so the companies can make a big profit off students. The same thing happened with Medicare. The Repub version of Medicare is funneled through insurance companies so the insurance companies can make big profits. The Repub version costs 14% more than the gov't run traditional Medicare.

When you hear that the Dems will cut Medicare, it's that 14% rip off that is really at stake.

25. No defeating it, pushes single payer even further away
You make the mistake of thinking they want to defeat the bill because it doesn't go far enough. The no votes, think it goes to far toward single payer

17. Only 8? And that's not guaranteed. We now know the 32 assholes who just want to get rich in congress
I want them all to lose. I want Obama to tell them to run as Republicans in 2010. I'm so pissed right now. Obama should threaten them instead of talking about Republicans will still attack them. He should attack them if they vote against this. I'm pissed. This has ruined my day.

24. Allen Boyd is a farking liar. He is voting no because his constituents,
mainly retired military are against health care reform. As one told me, they are afraid that they will be put on the public option like they were put on Medicare.
