I don't understand the rationale behind it -- I need help?

Why would these Democrats voted yes on the Stupak bill but voted no on the final health care bill.

I thought the Stupak amendment was suppose to be a compromise.

Apparently these guys voted to kill the bill outrightly.

I could understand a person being against abortion, but I cannot understand a person being against abortion, and against food stamps or welfare as another example

It contradicts what "they" say they believe in, i.e. the sanctity of life

Why would anyone trust someone like that. I would hope their districts vote them out

off, they voted for the Stupak bill which passed but then voted against
the final health care bill which includes the stupak bill.

6. Because the look at their districts and think that if they vote yes they lose their jobs.

They voted yes, because the right wing religious zealots who prefer women to shove a close hanger in your uterus and die rather than being able to see a doctor for an abortion will take their jobs away from them. Their vote was calculated to appeal to their constituents on the next political campaign. They never intended to vote for the bill and wanted to ring all the support they can from right wing Christians.

Blue Dogs (for the most part) are no different from any other Democrats except that their constituents are morons. If Henry Waxman represented Travis Childers' district he would most likely vote a lot like Travis Childers does now and vice versa.

There is some degree of difference in which politicians will represent the same constituency differently. For example, Jon Tester has been a lot more favorable to serious health care reform than Max Baucus has. But some of the blue dogs do truly live in districts that would still overwhelmingly vote for George W Bush if he were on the ballot today and there's simply not a whole lot of leeway that you can have when you represent that kind of stupid.

12. Taking a toxic dump.

They weren't ever going to vote for HCR.

Their calculation was to load the bill with an amendment so onerous that more Democrats would vote it down in the end.

This helps give them political cover. They can point to the final number who voted no and say, "See, I was just one of many."

Well, it didn't work out for them that way. Most Democrats held their noses and voted to pass it, even with Stupak.

Laws, like sausages, cease to inspire respect in proportion as we know how they are made.
