They could have increased their chances of holding their seats. They could have boosted their margins by drawing a contrast with Republicans through supporting popular reforms, but instead they chose to remain mired in the same failed ideology.

If you won by a big margin in a district that McCain carried over Obama, why do you think your chances of re-election would be better if you voted for the bill?

Some of these guys will lose. None will lose to anyone who would have supported HCR or is more progressive on any issue than the person currently holding the seat.

The perception would be that they actually stood for something and had a go. Put their money where their mouth was.

Instead they have defend being mealy mouthed half assed teabagging sorts.

In other words- losers.

This is our last chance. Those Senators have to think of what is more important: their careers or the county. No, this bill is not ideal. Far from it, but we have to start someplace and this is as good a place as any.
