Catholic Church has no political influence in Italy on abortion issue where they are legal and free!
Edited on Mon Nov-09-09 01:50 PM by Better Believe It
In predominately Catholic Italy, abortions are legal and performed free-of-charge in public (government) hospitals!

So why are the Pope's Vatican and its bishops given much more political power and say in the United States?

----------------------------------

Abortion in Italy became legal in May 1978, when Italian women were granted the right to terminate a pregnancy on demand during the first 90 days. Although a proposal to repeal the law was considered in a 1981 national referendum, it was rejected by nearly 68% of voters. Italian women are eligible to request an abortion for health, economic or social reasons, including the circumstances under which conception occurred. Abortions are performed free-of-charge in public hospitals or in private structures authorized by the regional health authorities.

1. Maybe because the Vatican is a sovereign state on its own and has
no say in the Italian Government whatsoever.

8. there are no Representatives in the US Congress from the Vatican
you are really struggling for reasons to oppose this Bill.

there are currently no Federal subsidies for abortion.
there are no subsidies for abortion in this Bill.

nothing has changed.

Healthcare Reform should not be sacrificed just because you want to subsidize abortions.

10. Read the GDP forum.
Pelosi had the bishops in her office and made a call to Rome on Friday night.

Then she permitted the vote.

Yes, you are wrong if you say it does not change things. It most certainly does change a lot.

DU is becoming anti-women very quickly. I guess it is necessary to rationalize this bill.

18. those spreading misrepresentations of what the amendment does should read it again
but if they are already willing to deceive to support their agenda, I doubt it will have any effect.

19. I have read the amendment and you are flat out, gold carat wrong
If you are in the government option you can't have abortion covered by that plan even if you pay every single, solitary cent of the premiums. This is directly opposed to the current situation with Medicaid and the states. New York is free to pay for abortions, as it does.

2. America is full of fools eager to be hoodwinked
and full of evil men whose highly paid job is to make idiots into fools.

America has lost its edge of Yankee skepticism, altho the RW pretends to still have it--but they are fooling us for their own profit.
