Rep. Jeff Flake (Ariz.) is the latest Republican Member to pick a side in the Kansas Senate primary battle between GOP Reps. Jerry Moran and Todd Tiahrt.
Flake endorsed Moran on Friday and gave his campaign $1,000. His endorsement comes as little surprise since the Arizona Congressman has been one of the most vocal opponents in Congress of earmarks and wasteful spending, and Tiahrt is a member of the Appropriations Committee.
“I know I can count on Jerry Moran to stand with me in my fight against wasteful earmarks and efforts to increase transparency in government,” Flake said in a statement obtained by Roll Call. “Many in Washington D.C. don’t want to address the serious problems with the earmarking process, but Jerry has been a compelling, principled voice for reform. His strong voice for accountability and transparency is needed in the U.S. Senate.”
Moran has received the lion’s share of endorsements from his GOP colleagues in Congress, including Sens. John McCain (Ariz.), John Thune (S.D.), Tom Coburn (Okla.) and Mike Johanns (Neb.).
