After what Minority Leader Brian Kolb called a "thorough and frank discussion," Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava resigned today as Minority Leader pro tempore.

"Over the coming weeks, I will be assessing who will serve as our Conference's next Leader Pro Tempore to lead our Assembly floor debates," Mr. Kolb's statement says in closing.

It seems contradictory for a person who presents an argument against their own removal to offer their resignation, unless there's more to this story than what the leader's statement says.

With the resignation, Ms. Scozzafava may lose her $16,500 bonus and her office space that goes with the leadership position. I'll try to find out and report more if I get it.

3. I'm confused
I'm in the 23rd and have been following the drama throughout but this announcement is confusing.

What does DeDe gain by resigning? Is she simply so disenchanted that she wants nothing to do with the North Country Republicans? Is she going Dem? Someone enlighten me.

Thanks and so glad to be DUing!
