Jeez... Anybody Here Old Enough To Remember When Dem Catholics Had To...
assure the American public that they weren't gonna take their orders from Rome???

<snip>

"Major issues included how to get the economy moving again, Kennedy's Roman Catholicism, Cuba, and whether the Soviet space and missile programs had surpassed those of the U.S. To address fears that his Roman Catholicism would impact his decision-making, he famously told the Greater Houston Ministerial Association on September 12, 1960, "I am not the Catholic candidate for President. I am the Democratic Party candidate for President who also happens to be a Catholic. I do not speak for my Church on public matters — and the Church does not speak for me." Kennedy also brought up the point of whether one-quarter of Americans were relegated to second-class citizenship just because they were Roman Catholic."

1. I remember those days as well--who would think those would be considered the "good old days"?

4. I remember very well! THEN it was a terrible thing to have
any religion enter into gov't at all! There were a lot of things back then that don't exist anymore.

I attended 12 years of a Catholic School and we weren't permitted to attend a marriage in a protestant church...even if the bride or groom was a very close friend! You were allowed to walk into a protestant church, but never participate in any ceremony or rite. I remember our teachers lauding Kennedy's candidacy but I graduated from HS right before he was elected. Of course I couldn't vote for him because then you had to be 21.

It's very frightening to me that the extremists seem to be gaining a lot of ground influencing our elected officials. I don't calre what religion they are, it's wrong! Wasn't that one of the main reasons people left England to come to America? They were forced to support the Church of England!

7. What's Even Weirder...
And I agree with everything you just stated...

But I sometimes wonder if anybody bothers to read the shit they say they believe in.

I mean, I'm the Atheist who believes totally in the "Golden Rule", and loving thy neighbor,

while the healing, and sanctity of love of our fellow man is being frontally assaulted by,,,

so called "true" believers.

Holy See...

Is it possible that some Atheists are better followers of Christ that a gigantic wedge of the Christian followers???
