Most disgusting thing I've ever seen a so-called (D) try-attempt to hijack HCR by abortion language
As President Obama himself said, this is a "health care bill", not an "abortion bill." I have rarely seen in my life such a cynical, disgusting, offensive ploy as that that Bert Stupak puled against the House leadership on Saturday. Nothing could be more outrageous. Turning an already contentious piece of legislation into a moral debate on abortion is insane, it shows that Stupak could care less about insuring millions of uninsured or about the long-term health of the Democratic party. It is also bribery on the highest order. It shows callous disregard for the principles of the democratic party. Where did this guy come from anyway? I didn't hear a word about him until July/August 2009. Perhaps, it was even a deliberate poison pill.

Bert Stupak is no democrat, has no conscience and honestly I hope the leadership makes his life misery for causing the debate to erupt in this fashion. That said, it'll be stripped in conference and will be forgotten but the fact that a democrat would do this to HCR is unforgivable, offensive, appalling and sick.

The more I think about what he caused, the more I realize just how much of a travesty it was.

1. And if that don't work
they will try something else. I swear I wish they would all just go away on an extended vacation and get lost.

2. Plenty of blame to go around.
Stupak for inserting it. Pundits for fanning it. Bloggers/Advocates/Detractors for spinning it, ad nauseam.

3. Can't say what was up with that
but you can't use it to toss him out as a Democrat. He voted against TARP and wants to end the Iraqi occupation.

7. I didn't have a front row seat ..
but he just wanted to make sure they aren't publicly funded. That could be due to concerns of his constituents.

If that's true, he can't be a Democrat. The whole lot of them should be locked up for treason.

Too many C-Streeters are Dems. Eight democratic c-streeters voted in favor of the Stupak-Pitts amendment and then against the bill.

I meant, he can't be a "Democrat" along the lines of the OP's statement.

Act Blue and DFA need to be alerted and replace everyone of these traitors next time they are up.
C Street is UNFORGIVABLE. Absolutely un-American.

10. She has been on fire the past two mornings. Really standing up strong for what's right.
I've grown to enjoy her show more and more over the past couple weeks, but the past two days have really sealed my admiration for her utilizing her voice and position on TV to call out the BS and clearly lay out the facts.

5. When Is Stupak Up For Re-Election?......
I see he is in his 9th term in Congress. He represents Michigan's 1st District. He won last time with 65% margin.

I'm wondering when he'll be up for re-election and if we can get a challenger for his seat?

We should vote him and the rest of his cronies from C-Street out of Congress whether they are Repug or Dem.

8. Rachel exposed Stupak as a C-streeter.
So are EIGHT of the a-holes that voted yes on the Stupak Amendment and no on HCR.

That explains a lot.

these people are whacked, regardless if there is a D next to his name or not. Stupak is an idiot. His amendment is disgusting. I hope it is stripped from the final bill. If not, I cannot support the health care bill.

15. It was a poison pill designed to effect failure of passage of
a final health care bill. And it might just work. The timing of the threat spoke volumes, and the Republicans (as well as Republican-lites) always use one of the wedge issues to derail anything they do not like.

18. Three things:
1. Me too regarding Dr. Nancy. I didn't know what to think of her at first but now I'm a big fan. She's awesome.
2. He's from MICHIGAN???!! I could understand a deep southerner doing this but someone from a reliably democratic state is unforgivable. Health care is probably almost as popular in MI as it is in MS or NY. This wasn't poltiical preservation in that case. It was something far more sinister. Poison pill seems about right.
3. What's a C-streeter?

20. C-Street:
Edited on Tue Nov-10-09 11:18 PM by Jennicut
"What is C-Street? The C-Street house in Washington DC is actually a former convent and now it’s registered as a church. It is run by what is called the Family and is used to provide housing for six to eight congressmen at any time, and provide spiritual direction for these congressmen or politicians. Two of the members of the C-Street Family are Senator John Ensign of Nevada, and Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina who seem to have more in common then simply this house in Washington.

Jeff Sharlet is the author of The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power. According to Sharlets research, the Family is the oldest Christian Conservative organization in Washington and actually began 70 years ago. The founder believed that god gave him a new revelation saying that Christianity had gotten it wrong for two thousand years and that what most people think of as Christianity, as being about, helping the weak and the poor and the meek and the down and out, he believes god came to him one night in April in 1935 and said what Christianity should really be about is building more power for the already powerful. And that these powerful men who were chosen by god can then if they want to dispense blessings to the rest of us, through a kind of trickle-down fundamentalism." http://www.examiner.com/x-11130-Birmingham-Liberal-Examiner~y2009m7d12-Whats-up-with-CStreet

Stupak lives at C-Street but denies knowledge of the connections to the Family. He is essentially a liar.http://michiganmessenger.com/23484/stupak-denies-knowledge-of-connections-to-mysterious-c-street-house
