Colorado state Rep. Cory Gardner (R) has another primary opponent, as former Fort Collins City Councilman Diggs Brown is set to announce his candidacy.
Brown will announce for Rep. Betsy Markey's (D-Colo.) seat on Saturday. He recently returned from a year-long deployment in the Army. During that time, he has been unable to get involved in politics, but his entry into the race had been anticipated.
Gardner is the favorite of national Republicans. He already faces primary opposition from University of Colorado Regent Tom Lucero.
"I've served the country for 30 years in the military; I've been around the globe; I've negotiated with tribal leaders; I've negotiated with embassies," Brown told the Fort Collins Coloradoan. "I've had that experience to find a common solution and move forward to complete a mission."
