If the insurance industry only wanted new customers
why did AHIP work to kill the Clinton managed care health plan that mandated coverage?

1. Don't you know DU is a logic-free zone when it comes to trashing Democratic legislative efforts.

5. Yes, that was Karl Rove's mantra for eight years. Now it's practiced 24/7 at DU by the usual Haters

7. Part of DU wants it to be a logic free zone but
thanks to the relentlessness of Pro Sense and others it has a chance to live in a Reality Zone.:toast:

2. I saw Frontline the other night, it was about health care reform in Switzerland
They mandate insurance there. We have a long way to go to making a program that good but they still started out mandating insurance. All the major industrial nations with national health care plans do that.

3. Because they didn't like the idea that new rules might come with mandated coverage

Claiming that the government was taking health insurance out of the hands of private corporations always gets a rise out of people, too.

9. So apples to apples they're WORSE off now if we have a strong public option than if
...if they would've just taken the deal with Clinton it looks like.

14. They are going to get millions of new customers
and billions of dollars. Maybe they were waiting till the time was right for a health insurance mandate to be plausible.

15. With millions in overhead and new customers with pre-existing conditions
from a pimple to a pregnancy.

Sure they love being held accountable.
