Self-funders in Illinois, Ohio up with ads
A couple of wealthy long shot Senate candidates are up with their first ads.

Car dealer Tom Ganley, who is challenging former Rep. Rob Portman in Ohio's GOP Senate primary, announced this morning that he is going up with his first ad.

And in Illinois, self-funding attorney Jacob Meister (D) is up with his first ad (above). It features video of him personally showing up to file his petitions recently. Meister self-funded $1 million in the third quarter.

Ganley's ad highlights his job creation bona fides and his personal bio. It's not clear how much money is behind it. He has threatened to self-fund millions, and he put about $120,000 into his campaign in the third quarter.

"Everywhere I go my conservative message of creating jobs, cutting taxes, and reducing the Federal budget deficit is resonating with voters," Ganley said in a statement. "Supporters from around the state and around the country are coming to my website and signing up to help our campaign. Today, we decided to increase the volume of the message and reach out to even more voters."

1. I'm from Illinois and had yet to hear of Meister before this.
But of course I am in Southern Illinois and he is from Northern Illinois (Chicago) and the ads were ran in Central Illinois. ha

I do not know how good he will do, I think almost anyone can beat Burris (if he chooses to run) but the big weapon in this state may be "he is from Chicago" this year. At least it looks that way for governor. Of course Obama was our Senator and he was from Chicago and look at how well he has done. Anyway, I found the following about Meister which shows the platform on which he will be running.

The campaign of Chicago attorney and Democratic Senate candidate Jacob Meister said it began airing one-minute TV ads in central
Illinois today in which he contends that helping the economy and creating jobs is more important than battling corruption. “There’s
other people who would like to say that it’s all about corruption,” Meister says in the ad, which revisits his Springfield appearance
to file candidacy petitions for the Feb. 2 Democratic primary nomination. “Obviously, corruption is an important message, but that’s
not the measuring stick we should be using. This is about the economy.”
