Poll question: How many undecideds on DU?

I'm guessing the overwhelming majority of us have picked a candidate. Let's find out. If you are not absolutely sure who you would vote for today in the Democratic primary, please count yourself as undecided.

1. ABB - and I will back it up

Yes, I am undecided; much to like about Dean, Gephardt, Clark, Kerry, Edwards. Sharpton, Kucinich and Moseley-Braun are a little too marginal; Lieberman too Republican. Our nation is at stake, here. Will decide by March, but will support anybody against Bush, enthusiastically and wholeheartedly, and hope other DUers will do the same.

Hey, take as much as you need, don't worry about other people being so sure, just learn all that you can about all of the candidates and do the right thing for you!

And in the meantime go pick on a republican about bush's horrible record, it'll make you feel better :-)

2. I'll freely admit that I'm undecided. Actually "torn" is a better word.

Deep down, Kuchinich is the candidate I want. But he can't beat Bush.

Dean is the candidate that I've supported, even before his popularity.

But the best ticket, in my opinion, would be Kerry/Edwards.

I'm secretly, or not so secretly now, impressed with Edwards.

I'm happy to know that the decision to support a candidate is so tough! It means the Democrats have fielded a great crop of candidates, which I thoroughly believe. I wish they could all be merged together into an uber-candidate.

My original candidate has been saying a lot of things that make me question his integrity and commitment and so I'm looking at another candidate who, leately, is saying things more along my line of thinking.

14. There are more of us than people think

who are genuinely undecided.

For myself, I want the candidate who has the best chance to win next year. I'll support the nominee without hesitation, but I intend to vote for the one who has the best chance of winning.

I had narrowed the field to Clark, Gephardt, and Dean, but Kerry and Edwards have shown some signs of life lately, too. Results in Iowa and NH will have an influence on me, but I'm not just going to go with the winner by default.

I wish I had more time to see more of the real campaign - during the primaries, while votes are actually being cast - but my state (SC) is Feb 3, so I have to decide soon.

16. You might have a biased sample here in the GD2004 forum

A lot of undecideds (myself, included) probably don't spend much time in this forum, which is dominated by partisans of particular candidates. So the true fraction of undecideds here at DU is probably somewhat higher than the results of this poll indicate.

The person I would GLADLY give my vote to was the first to withdraw - Senator Graham.

I like 4 of the current candidates for various reasons...Kerry, Clark, Dean and Kucinich.

I like what both Sharpton and Mosely Braun have contributed to the debates but they won't be in the race by the time it reaches California (most likely)..If they are..my vote MAY very well GO to one of the two simply because I think it is BULLSHIT and UNAMERICAN that (especially in CMB's case) a qualified African American, let alone a FEMALE still is NOT taken seriously in presidential races

I am NOWHERE near being decided since while I see great qualities in the four I have named, I also see too many contradictions to rectify it for myself as of yet.

I like Dean's fighting spirit..I am not comfortable with some of his actions as governor, some of his statements and mostly his need to backtrack and explain himself.

Kerry IMHO has the most LIBERAL record of the four, but has run a poor campaign, put his foot in his mouth a few times as well and really DOES have trouble rectifying his vote with his other positions regarding IWR (that is a shift for me)

Kucinich again has good fight in him for the working folks and was the most instrumental in bringing the issues to light PRIOR to the war of any of the Dems but his votes where women's reproductive rights are concerned in the past are a problem for me in spite of his new found tolerance for a woman's right to self determination.

Clark again has many good points and watching him speak is probably his greatest attribute, but the SOA issue..combined (even though he did explain it to the satisfaction of SOME) with his support of Reagan and Bush 1 is BEYOND me given that he has an economics degree.


The only one I have given short shrift to is Edwards, NOT because he isn't quite inspiring in many regards close to my heart..he is plain old TOO inexperienced for my tastes.

and i'm none too happy that the primaries are so front loaded this year ... i think this process needs to evolve ... democrats are not ready to crown anyone king just yet ...

my still in the runnings (in alphabetical order) are: clark, kerry, kucinich ...

dean is not in the running ... i like many of his stands on the issues ... but i have numerous, real problems with him ... i hope he falters sooner rather than later so we can get a stronger ticket ...

27. I am undecided on my 2nd choice, and since my 1st choice is Kucinich....

....well, I probably need to get a 2nd choice, as the top of the Kucinich campaign is a bit of an amateur playground, and that fact is obviously reflected in the polls. That is really sad, oonsidering the fact that Kucinich is clearly the best candidate we have had in recent times. Hell, maybe the best major candidate ever!

Edwards is out unless I can find good evidence he is a liberal. Just look at his donor numbers: he has a greater percentage of big money donors than anyone, even Lieberman.

As for Dean, his past words and actions show him to be an enemy of the left, an enemy of progressive taxation, and an enemy of the social safety net. He is obviously a cryptoRepublican (see www.mylinuxisp.com/~cryofan/dean.html for proof). And his deception makes him somewhat loathesome, in my eyes. And that is really a shame, because he is the most talented speaker I have even seen in politics. And his campaign is a wonder to behold--truly magnificent and groundbreaking...what a shame to have such a campaign built around a damn PseudoLiberal.

Lieberman is obviously a Republican, and not even a cryptoRepublican, like Dean. Nuff said....

Sharpton is a crook. Nuff said....

I really really like what Moseley-Braun has to say. She could possibly be a very good president. Unfortunately, I think that every black politician I have ever seen is looking out more for fellow blacks than everyone else in the country. Carole could be an exception, however. Also, she had an ethical cloud hanging over her when she was busted out of the Senate. However, given her somewhat leftist leanings, she could have been framed by the media. If CMB somehow rises in polls, I could go for her.

So, when it gets down to cold reality, my second choice comes down to Clark, currently running for first, right with Gephardt, closely followed by Kerry. Clark is starting to sound like a real lefty. I really like that, even though he could be lying. But it is good just to hear the things he is saying about taxation. Gephardt is well known for his pro-labor record. Can't go wrong there! Kerry supposedly has a solid liberal record, and he is talking a lot of progressive talk lately. I go back and forth between these three on a daily basis.

28. Once it's over 100 votes I don't think we'll see the percentages change

much. Wow 43% undecided -- not at all what I expected. For example, that's more than double the number of undecided in ARG NH poll. And I can't really think of reasons why candidate supporters would vote undecided to skew the results... interesting.
