Why Kerry isn't actively campaign in NH

I noticed in recent weeks that Kerry has been absent from the stump in NH. That's because he's in Iowa. He's devoting all of his attention in Iowa, because he's been unable to pick up momentum in NH for a year now. He's essentially making a gamble that consists of campaign in one place as the only means of doing better in a place that you've failed to do well in in terms of directly campaigning.

DOVER — It was almost exactly 12 years ago when Bill Clinton stood in the function hall of the Dover Elks Lodge and pledged to stick with voters "till the last dog dies."

Presidential candidate John Kerry hopes the building will become the birthplace of yet another "comeback kid."

"I’m here tonight to tell you that I’m in this fight to win the nomination!" Kerry shouted Thursday, standing in the function hall, bursting with the energy of a cheering crowd. "I’m in this fight to win the presidency against George Bush!" he said, looking at the nearly 300 people who gave him a standing ovation.

The 60-year-old U.S. senator from Massachusetts wrapped up his last New Hampshire campaign swing before the Iowa caucus with the event at the Elks lodge. With local firefighters, who hosted the event, and former New Hampshire Gov. Jeanne Shaheen by his side, Kerry vowed to restore democracy in America he claims has diminished under Bush’s leadership.

I think he'd make an OK President. His positions are ok. Just he's a lousy candidate. I like to listen to him speak. Just something about him doesn't click. But I like him but....

MANCHESTER, Jan. 8 – U.S. Sens. John Kerry and Joe Lieberman toned down their stump speeches at a college convention on Thursday, focusing instead on public service and talked about drug enforcement.

Kerry made no references, implicit or otherwise, to former-gov. Howard Dean or other Democratic candidates, talking instead about education, health care and public service at College Convention 2004.

"Republican, Democrat, Independent; it doesn’t matter," Kerry said. "What’s important is that we bring people back into helping make this country stronger."

While Lieberman disparaged both President Bush and Dean’s tax plans, he refrained from mentioning the rest of the Democratic field.

"I run for president with a belief and confidence in America that we remain the most diverse, tolerant, gifted, hard-working, entreprenureal, innovative, ... the most decent poeople in the world," the Connecticut senator said. “With the right kind of leadership, we can make sure that your future is what this is all about."

The candidates that are able to compete in Iowa and in NH are switching back and forth.... some are even making stops in other states as well.

They are spending more time in Iowa because the time left before the caucus is shorter.

I was part of a conference-call with fmr-Gov Jeanne Shaheen on Tuesday, and she says the campaign is doing well in NH--

I know she has a Kerry bias (a plus for my guy), but I believe her when she says the campaign is moving forward.

It is a fact that his number's gone down in that poll. Just how significant it is I don't know.

During each day of the tracking, a minimum of 200 interviews are completed among respondents saying they will definitely vote in the Democratic primary on January 27. The results reported are based on combining the last three days of interviews for a total sample size of a minimum of 600 likely Democratic primary voters.
