Andrew Young backing down on Clark endorsement?

This is from the Atlanta paper yesterday. I'm not sure what's going on with this:

"Former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young plans to campaign with Wesley Clark in South Carolina on Sunday, but refused Thursday to say the joint appearances will constitute an endorsement of the retired general's presidential campaign"

"Asked whether he would appear with any other presidential candidates in South Carolina, Young said, "Probably not. But I might in Georgia or Texas. I don't know.''

It seems some legislators endorsement is tied to a certain amount of ahh, how to say this delicately... special treatment.

Naive me thought it was based on which candidate one identified with most closely. I know better now.

I am told that this is just the way it is, and the way it has been forever. Presumably, all candidates have to deal with this.

It's not a huge scandal, we're just talking about rides to events/fundraisers, direct contact with high level campaign people instead of normal channels, stuff like that.

No, c'mon, you didn't really believe that, did you? Because yes, that would be very naive. Real people endorse on that basis, but hardly any politicians do. With them it's always quid pro quo.

Why do you suppose Kucinich has a stellar lineup of endorsements from real people, but hardly any politicians?

He was as caught off guard as everyone else by Dean's unexpected ability to oupoll his opponents in areas of the South.

There is nothing about backing down. The post headline is deceptive. The article headline is:

Young to campaign with Clark in S.C.

That's good for Clark, no?

Just what is it you think Young knows about Clark that would make him change his mind in such a short time? Can you read Young's mind for that matter?

The article is entirely Pro-Clark. There is nothing in it about backing out of any endorsement. Young is appearing with Clark and Rangel in SC. Can it get much better?

The thread poster has complete misinterpreted the article, IMO.
