I went to a co-worker's house last night for a few beers and one of her friends came over to join us. My co-worker, by her own admission, isn't really into politics, but I have dutifully brought her into the fold by sharing things with her. She is of the opinion that Bush is a dumbass, and she is going to vote for Kerry. That being said, last night her friend COMPLETELY OUT OF THE BLUE says, "So I watched that debate the other night." Now my ears are perking up, because I know many of my friend's buddies are right-wingers. I asked her what she thought, and she said that she was going to vote for Bush, but after watching the debate she is planning on voting for Kerry. This girl doesn't know me from Adam and had no reason to try to win favor with this statement, so I asked her to tell me more. She said she voted for Gore in 2000, had planned on voting for Bush because she "didn't trust Kerry." We know that is the typical spin on Kerry that has been fed to the masses, so I asked her why she didn't trust Kerry. She said she didn't really know much about him because she's "not very political" so that's why she watched the debates. I asked her what she thought about Bush after the debate and she responded that she didn't really pay attention to him because she was more interested what Kerry had to say. She said his plans made sense, and that he spoke passionately and was very informed.
This is an excellent sign, in my opinion. The county in Florida where we all reside is VERY red. To hear this girl (whose husband isn't even registered to vote) say that she was convinced to vote for Kerry ONCE SHE SAW THE DEBATE is music to my ears!!!! Of course my husband, Clark4Prez, went to work on the husband who isn't registered, and his wife is adamant that she will get him registered before the deadline.
Good things coming from the debate, y'all.
