So, the other day I'm sitting here at home.. and there's a knock at my door. It wound up being some Kerry canvassers - I had a great conversation with them.. in the middle of it, I found out the local office was literally right around the corner from me and that they desperately needed some help.
So, anyway, for the first time in my life - I'm offering my time to them.. doing some phone banking this week, in addition to helping them with computer issues - which I'm glad to do.
Now, on to my civil disobedience.. or "how I really piss off Bush supporters"
My new thing is really simple - whenever I'm on the road.. if I see a car w/ a Bush bumper sticker.. I pull up along side of them. In a very nice, friendly approach, I ask them to wind down their window. Once they do, I tell them "wow, I've been following you here for a bit, and it looks like your back RIGHT tire is wobbling.. you might want to take a look at it"
The reason I do this is simple - to inconvenience them.. its the very least that I can do in exchange for their voting for Chimpy McSmirkAlot. When they stop along the side of the road and get out to check their tire, I typically wind my window up on the passenger side (at which time, the Kerry/Edwards sign winds right up along with it.) Its subtle - its amusing, and its fun.
(I tell them the right tire for two reasons - A, i dont want them getting killed on the side of the road - and B. to emphasize that , well, I dont like things on the right.. always knew there was a reason I was left handed)
On another note - I went to the Dolphins game tonight. On the way out, I told my friend to let me take the Kerry sign out of his trunk - and, during our 1/2 an hour or so of trying to get out of the parking lot, I basically held it up to my window - shouting out to people to not forget to vote.. we got alot of positive reactions. Of course, when we did the same thing on the road actually driving home, we had some cranky 80+ year old woman shouting at us and waving her finger "No Kerry, Buuuuuussssshhhhhh!" - I swear it was worse than the Randi Rhodes "Hezbollllllaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh" call.
Anyway - I just felt like sharing - I'm rather enjoying my newfound political activism.. take care.
