SAW GOING UPRIVER IN BERKELEY TONIGHT
Drove out to Berkeley on a whim and watched Going Upriver.

I really think we should be talking about how to get more people to see this film. If there have been threads addressing this, could somebody provide links?

This film transformed my view of Kerry. It may have transformed my view of politics. I realized tonight I have, in the name of open-mindedness, allowed my views of what happened in this country during the Vietnam War to be corrupted and twisted.

Watching GU tonight was one of the most powerful political experiences I have ever had.

Looking into the faces of the Vietnam Vets Against the War and listening to their voices has reminded me of something I knew once but allowed myself to be talked into questioning.

This is an incredible film that I think has more chance of impacting the election than F911, if only enough people see it. How can we make that happen?

1. Are you "the" Craig Roberts, author of several books...
...or are you using that as your boardname?

5. I'm not "the" Craig Roberts, I'm only "a" Craig Roberts
Are you talking about Paul Craig Roberts? Because I really hate being confused with that guy.

No book deals yet, but I've written some stuff for DU under Craig Roberts (an article on Schwarzenegger last year), and a couple under Max Udargo.

2. Saw it here, too!
My daughter and I saw it tonight in downtown San Diego. Over time, we've progressed from tolerating Kerry (after being fervent Deaniacs), to liking him, to admiring him, to enthusiastically supporting him. After seeing Going Upriver tonight, though, we're nearly bordering on hero worship.

JK is the one we need to lead our country back to the right path!

:bounce:

Word of mouth advertising is still the best. Talk it up! It was an amazing film, extremely well done.

7. Yeah, that's been my trajectory as well
I was a serious ABB supporter, but after tonight I am sorry I never understood Kerry as well as I needed to. He is exactly the man we need today. Hell, when he was 27 years old, he was exactly the man we need today.

Have you ever seen a kid come across so intelligently and eloquently? Those Senators were obviously impressed, and well they should have been.

He's the freakin' AntiBush.

11. He was amazing as a young man.
He has the experience, the knowledge, the character, and the perspective to bring to the presidency that we desperately need now.

The AntiBush is exactly what he is!

8. Good
Maybe we should develop some collective plan to commit to buying two extra DVDs and giving them to undecideds or something. Or host Going Upriver parties or something.

We have to get people watching this movie.

4. I took my Bush supporting..

mother in law over the weekend, and she said she was really going to think about voting for Kerry now.

She actually seemed to like the film even more than I did, but I think that's because she lived through the Vietnam War and I wasn't born yet.

I became a big Kerry fan a few months ago, but the film just reinforced my opinion of him. Kerry is a born leader, even more so than Clinton, and it's unimaginable to me that someone like Bush could defeat him. It would be a real loss to the young generations if we let that happen.

9. You said it
The question on November 2 will not be whether John Kerry deserves to be president, but whether America deserves a president like John Kerry. If Americans choose Bush over Kerry, it will be a day of shame.

Believe me, my mother is going to see this movie whether she likes it or not. F911 had an impact on her, but the impact is fading. I think this will be a good booster shot.

6. That movie was very emotional for me, all the memories of a very raw time
in America. Kerry reminds me of my Ex when I met him. The way the guys felt when they came back. They were so different. It was the worst time for division in this country until now. We do not learn from history. I say if GWPutz had gone to Nam he would not have been so gung ho on Iraq.

10. The movie did a great job
of showing the pain of the Vietnam Vets Against the War, and it also did a great job of showing what a mature, calming, intelligent leader Kerry was in the midst of so much emotion. And he was just a kid himself.

Kerry is a real American hero. And tonight I understand the heroism that he displayed after he returned. The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth had already educated me on his heroism in combat.
