Wouldn't surprise me. "Bandar Bush" is all ready to do it for his buddy Georgie.

1. Oil prices are going up again. I'm paying $2.02 again.
Three weeks ago it was $1.89.

3. Too late for that, me thinks
Even if he were able to make the price of crude oil drop instantly (which he can't), there's a several-week lag before it affects the gas prices at the pump.

4. It won't happen after F 9/11 caused a stink about Bandar and Bush
Bandar has already stated, on Larry King, that he "can't control the prices"

If it did happen it would stink so bad in the polls that it would be, IMO, the kiss of death for the Bunnypant/Darth Vader ticket.

5. Not bloody likely
In fact, T Boone Pickens said to look for 60 dollar oil before 40.

People are buying heating oil now and are experiencing sticker shock.

Can't be good for Bush.

6. With crude prices topping...
... $50/bbl, gas prices will probably continue to go up. This is also the home heating oil season, and that will raise the prices of diesel.

Even if prices were to drop precipitately now, the price change wouldn't show up at the pumps for several weeks, at best. And, there's little chance of crude prices dropping now, with all the damage done to offshore rigs and pipelines in the recent hurricanes.

Nope, there's little that Bandar Bush can do to help from now to the elections. The Saudis have already expanded production in some resting fields, but that oil is not suitable for use in all refineries, so the effect of that will be minimal.

If there's to be an October surprise, it likely won't be in gas prices.

7. Bandar Bush has NO interest in Bush winning. (IMO)
Edited on Wed Oct-06-04 03:40 PM by troublemaker
Since at least the first oil boycott under Nixon it has been US policy to control Saudi Arabia by any means nessecary. In the old days that meant keeping a cooperative royal family propped up in power. Corrupt, but civilized.

But now we have added simply taking an Arab gulf state by force to our range of options. We are no longer civilized.

The Saudis do not want Bush to remain in office. I doubt OPEC has "lost control of the oil market," no matter how many times OPEC spokesmen make that claim. I think Bush is being edged out by OPEC.

It takes a few weeks for oil commodity prices to turn into US gasoline prices. Gasoline will be expensive the week before the election. (Bush will be pouring oil out of the strategic reserve but that will have no time to take effect)

11. If it was possible, yes.
But I don't think it is. The Saudis aren't in control this time around.
