Actually, I was flashing my Kerry/Edwards sign at him, when he snuck in and out of Gainesville this afternoon.
It was hard to tell how many people were there. My guess is 300 - 500 people, about 2/3rd's were Kerry/Edwards supporters. We definitely outnumbered the Bush/Cheney folks.
There were no free speech zones and the police did not keep the Bush and Kerry people separate. They were there to maintain the peace and they did a good job.
I found a spot with a bunch of Kerry supporters along the curb and there were a bunch of Bush supporters on the other side, with a couple of police between us. We bantered back and forth, shouted at each other and other wise ranted and raved.
When the motorcade came by, Cheney was sitting on the passenger side of his SUV. I just stood there jumping up and down, flashing my sign and giving him the bird until he went past. It was great. I can't believe I behaved like this is public, but it felt really good. To look at the face of evil and give it the bird. Ah, now I need a shower.
