Hell, yeah!...
...I'm proud to say that the gentleman below is a friend of mine:

Shot down:
State Rep. Joseph Mitchell, D-Mobile, has continued his practice of lengthy remarks during House debates this session.

Mitchell angered some colleagues last year by having several bills read in full before the House could vote on the measures. He's not resorting to that tactic yet this year, but he did make several fellow lawmakers uncomfortable last week during a debate on a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages.

Before the House could vote overwhelmingly for the proposal, Mitchell suggested making a few additions. One would have banned divorce. The other would have made adultery a crime. Mitchell argued both measures should be supported by a legislative body bent on "protecting the sanctity of marriage."

Both amendments failed.

The House of Representatives approved one version of the bill 85-7, and the Senate approved another 35-0. Each must approve the other's bills. If they do, Alabamians would then vote on the proposal.

--------

Needless to say, Mitchell was one of the 7 who voted against the bill.

I will see him tomorrow evening, as a matter of fact, and will be sure to thank him.

2. The Mobile Register is usually very conservative but it occasionally
publishes a progressive LTTE as it did on 2 Dec 04.

QUOTE

Adultery considered more damaging

The homosexual marriage issue has polarized our nation and threatens to split major religious denominations.

Several states have passed laws making same-sex marriages illegal, and I assume limited resources will be spent to enforce those laws. Of course, that's the people's right, as long as the Supreme Court of the United States does not decide that such laws are unconstitutional.

From a Christian perspective, adultery is more important than same-sex marriage, because adultery is one of the Ten Commandants and same-sex marriage is not.

If the Supreme Court does decide that laws banning same-sex marriages are legal, then I hope states rush to pass and enforce laws banning adultery, because it's also a marriage issue.

5. When I saw Joseph Monday night...
...I told him that some people wanted me to expressly thank him for his efforts in regard to the Gay Marriage Amendment.

He just kind of shrugged his shoulder, cocked his head and said, "Hey, man, I'm just trying to do what's right. Thanks, though."

I responded, "No, thank you."
