Alabama sports uniforms
Is it my memory playing tricks with me? Didn't 'Bama's uniforms use to be a much darker shade of red, with just an ever-so-slight, almost invisible, purplish tinge? You know -- crimson?

I'm pretty sure that's the case. And I liked those uniforms much better than the generic red color they wear these days.

Reckon we could start a letter-writing campaign to Mal Moore and get 'em changed back?

1. Love "The Bear." What's with Auburn beating you guys?
I started watching the Tide when Joe-Willie ran the offense. That was one great team, many good ones after that. What's with those upstarts at Auburn?

3. Auburn had a great year
I have respect for them. Their players did great in the draft today!

As for the post-Bryant era at 'Bama, I just watched the '93 Sugar Bowl (the edited version from ESPN-C),and that may have been my favorite game of all time. On that tape is also the '79 victory over Penn State. But I respect Penn State and Joe Paterno. I *really* relished the win over Miami. Miami's a program that has never had any class, and apparently never will.

Speaking of Joe Willie, before I was born, my parents were at the
Jungle Club in Tuscaloosa. Joe asked my mom to dance, she declined ('cause my dad was there). He said "Don't you know who I am?" She said "I know who you are, and I still don't want to dance with you." Joe was cocky, but that's not the same as a total lack of class. As Miami is and apparently always will be. Shalala included. :)

5. Lived in NYC when Joe Willie was ending his Jets career!

He was the toast of the town. People loved his charm and good manners, which he no doubt picked up at Alabama. He and his buddies got in some trouble when a bar they ran, Bachelors Three, became a mafia hangout but everybody loved Joe Willie so he just sold his interest.

I do remember that Bryant-Paterno game. Never again will two coaches like that meet on the same field.

Your mom is great! I like her style!

Maybe next season. I'd like to see Alabama come all the way back.

6. he had a Bachelors Three in Tuscaloosa too
It burned down. I still wonder about that.

And he still owns A LOT of commercial real estate in the area. He's a moneymaker all right. I think he's a good guy, basically.

Thanks for the good words for my mom! I think she's cool too! I wonder what she might've done if dad wasn't there. :) I would be richer, except I wouldn't be here. :)

I hope the Tide does well this year. If not, Coach Shula might be looking for a job, and I would hate that because he seems like a nice guy.

Thanks for the wishes for my team. I want at least one more national championship.

2. No, you're right...
...they were darker.

Take a look at some photos from the last couple years of Bear's era. You'll see the jerseys were closer to maroon than they are now. The move toward a more scarlet appearance came during the Perkins era, about the same time the shoe contract changed from Nike to Pony.

Also, today's jerseys have more of a sheen to them which can help give the appearance that the variation of red is lighter.

4. didn't you like the old-school jersies better?
At the least they were more distinctive. Now we look just like Georgia, and a million other schools.

7. You Are Right
They did have more of a purple shade as opposed to today's reddish look. But as far as unis today go, they are virtually unchanged.

Syrinx- Are you registered on a Crimson Tide forum? I know you are a big 'Bama fan. I post on http://www.ttforums.com (Tide-Talk) under the name of "wincrimson." Check out the link and I hope that you'll take me up on my invite!

Roll Tide! :)

8. hi
I read TideFans.com sometimes, but I haven't registered. About 80% of the posters there seem to be far-right-wingers, and I'd probably get banned in about 10 minutes. (Though there a few very articulate liberals there. Not surprisingly, they seem to be the most intelligent members. I admit I may be biased. :) )

I'm not familiar with Tide Talk, but I'll check it out. Thanks for the tip!

9. I Would Stay Away From TideFans
I have heard that they have a lot of garbage there. And I can assure that you won't get banned at Tide Talk for debating politics, within a civil discussion of course. Politics isn't the meat of the board though, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on Bama football. We have a great time in there and I know that you'd love hanging around with some die-hard Bama fans. Anyway, I just thought I'd give ya an invite.

BTW, we are 130 days away 'till the Middle Tennessee game. Roll Tide!

10. I had a nightmare a few weeks ago
That we got beat by MTSU, I forget exactly, something like 130-0. And people were wanting to lynch Coach Shula. That was about the scariest dream I ever had... and I dream about nuclear war from time to time.

I hope they do well this year. I don't think we'll have any problems winning that first game, but do you have any predictions for the coming season? To tell the truth, if I had to pick just one, I'd rather beat Tennessee than Auburn. Of course I hope we win both of those, and get a trip to Atlanta. And I think that's possible if Brodie can stay healthy.

What about the Coach's demeanor last season? Early in the season, a lot of people, including me, were complaining about his low-key attitude on the sidelines. Then later on, there were complaints (but not from me) about him getting too fired up and using the "F" word a lot with the officials. I prefer the cussing coach to the comatose one.

Roll Tide!
