Artur Davis Running For Governor Or Senate In "the next 5 years"

Artur Davis spoke last week at Harvard, where he graduated magna cum laude, and said that he would seek the governorship or the Senate in the next 5 years. I have been trying to beat this drum for the longest time. Actually, I have been advocating his run for either the Senate or for Governor since the first time I met him at a house in Birmingham. Rep. Davis may be one of the most intelligent men I have ever met and would make a great Governor/Senator.

That would be best. Lucy Baxley will win the Governorship but will likely stay for only one term. I think that we have more than one good Dem candidate that we could run whenever she finishes.

But US Senate... that's a different story. There are not many AL Dems that look like they "belong" in the US Senate. Granted, we have one Senator already that looks like one of Santa's elves. :D

Seriously, Davis would make a great Senator. He is moderate, but certainly not conservative.

Rep. Davis has definitely voted for somethings that I do not agree with, but I really think he would do a good job of TRULY representing Alabama (one of the poorest states in the union) and could he be worse than Mr Intelligence leak Shelby??? I think not. But you were correct he is definitely a moderate.

I knew Davis was getting "Jewish money." But I didn't realize the extent of his AIPAC connections before. What do we do now? Hilliard was an embarrassment. Was he better than Davis anyway? I doubt it. But where do we go now?

I would have been equally disturbed if Davis was catapulted to victory by any other special interest lobby with little or no interest in our state politics, but a lot of interest in his votes on national or international policy issues.

I think Syrinx agrees with me, which is why he put that in quotation marks. I'll let him speak for himself, but I'm guessing that neither of us has a problem with the religion of any donor to any candidate. In this case, AIPAC is not even a "Jewish" interest lobby, but a PAC that works for congressional support for Israel (which is a divisive issue even in the Jewish community).

Hilliard is an anti-Jewish bigot. (I don't say anti-Semitic, because Arabs are semites as well, and Hilliard is certainly not anti-Arab. I remember him hob-nobbing with Qadafi, of all people. And something about a billion dollars from him, but I'm fuzzy on the details.)

10. Who Else Would You Suggest?

I really like Roger Bedford. He lost to Sessions by about 5% back in 1996.

Bedford is a warrior for the less fortunate in our society... which is basically ALL of Alabama. A great candidate in my book.

It seems he does have his ethical baggage, however.

As for the seventh district, I don't think there is any comparison. I do think that Davis is beholden, and shows it, to the Israeli lobby, but he actually accomplishes stuff. He's been very active on environmental and poverty issues. I can't think of anything that Hilliard accomplished in his years in office. And whenever I tried to contact him, or anyone in his office, I found it impossible. They were always "gone fishing." While Davis is not perfect, he is a vast improvement over his predecessor.

He's a helluva warrior for the consumer though. I really like him.
