Tim James Running???
According to Bamacrat there are rumors in Montgomery of a Tim James (son of Fob James) gubernatorial run in 2006. While I think this is doubtful, I hope the GOP ticket is packed full of candidates, it helps divide the money and also helps create contention within the party.

1. Welcome to DU!
I went to school with Tim James. That's interesting, and you are right - any further divisions among Republicans do nothing but help us in the coming years!

2. Tim James Cannot Win
He has run before in the GOP Primary and gotten clobbered. This race will come down to Lucy Baxley vs. Roy Moore. There will be no James, Siegelman, Riley, to kick around in November.

3. I hope you are right
I am on my knees that you are right, at least about Baxley, because Siegelman has supposedly hired "The Matrix" (a political consulting firm in Montgomery) and they are known for playing some hardball. If he is really adamant about this it could get ugly, which is the only way I see us losing in the '06 general. You are right about Riley, the tax hike killed him. He will be lucky to get 10 GOP votes.

4. 2 Reasons
1) Not enough grassroots support

2) Majority of voters have unfavorable view of Fob James, his dad

I hope he does run. The more clogged the GOP gets, the wider the distribution of funds are spread. But the same thing can happen on our side as well. Even if candidates run that absolutely have no chance of winning (ex: Charles Bishop in '02), they will take at least SOME money away from the money that could possibly be donated in the general election.

At any rate, the rest of the projected field needs to take a cold shower and realize that the '06 race is between Lucy Baxley and Roy Moore. Period.
