Alabama DU Meet-Up - I think it's time to get serious about this!
Edited on Sat May-28-05 10:34 AM by southlandshari
There are too many cool people in our little AL DU community that I really want to meet to let this idea languish any longer!

So I'm reopening the discussion. I'm willing to take on a good deal of the organizing, if I can get a good idea of what will work for most of you. So, let's start with a few basic questions:

WHERE would be the best location? And under that heading, please indicate your level of flexibility (ie Gulf Shores would be a great location, but you could travel up to X number of miles somewhere else if given enough planning time).

WHEN would be the best time? The 4th of July (or sometime during that week) has been suggested. Does that work (or NOT work) for you?

WHAT kind of gathering would you like to have? A day on a lake or at the beach? Something in conjunction with another event of interest - there are tons of festivals and concerts and other events across Alabama all summer long.

Any other suggestions or concerns that come to mind, add them here. Thanks in advance for your help!

Shari

2. Every chance I get!
But I don't live there, unfortunately. I would make a divine beach bummette, though. Corona in a cooler, Jimmy Buffet on the radio and as few clothes as possible. That would be a happy existence for me!

You had just better let me know next time you have reason to pass through any corner of my state - I'll be there with the welcome wagon!

:pals:

Of course we went through during a bad weather time...early April..Trof and MzT almost didn't make it out that day..but the weather cleared and we got lucky...they are a lovely couple!

But, I don't know, it might be difficult to find lodging on July 4th. Or maybe it would be no problem at all... I don't think I've ever been there on a holiday like that.

OOPS: on reading that again, I see you're talking about a day trip. So never mind. ;)

5. well
I'm down for it. I would figure either Montgomery or Birmingham would be the most central places in the state.

8. Central or North would be easier for me.
And I'll volunteer my home and dock on Lake Guntersville.
But wherever we decide, I'll definitely try to be there!

9. I'm in North Alabama (Guntersville)
But I think we should shoot for a central location to accomodate those from the southern end of the state.

I doubt if I could make it to Gulf Shores, just as I wouldn't ask folks from Mobile to drive all the way to Guntersville... unless you just INSIST...

B'ham... Tuscaloosa... Auburn... Montgomery...

10. I
like the idea of Auburn. Then again, I'm a bit biased. Hell, you can all come out to one of the college democrat's tailgates this upcoming football season. It should be a good time had by all.

11. Info
I am a Georgia resident now, but an AU grad. I also have season tickets. Where can I get info on the College Dem's tailgates?

12. You
can sign up for our e-mail list at www.auburn.edu/audems and that will put you on our general membership mailing list. If you would like to be on our alum mailing list, send me your e-mail address at costebl@auburn.edu and I'll make sure that you get on it. I will be sending out probably montly e-mails to the alum mailing list to keep them up-to-date, but if you want a weekly/biweekly update, sign up for the general list. As far as taigates go, we are tentatively looking at the Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Ole Miss, and Alabama games. Those will be our biggest home games of the year. Once again, feel free to e-mail me or join up on the website.

Thanks,

Brandon

13. I'm in Huntsville but I would travel to the beach
Gulf Shores, Dauphin Island. But in the interest of practicality, Birmingham would probably be the most central for all of us.

14. Well, I'm in Dothan and none of the places mentioned so far
are anywhere near close to me lol. Montgomery--2 hours, Gulf Shores--3 hours, Auburn--3 hours, B'ham--about 6 hours, I think lol. Seems we are a pretty spread out group lol.
