George Wallace Jr. addressed the Council of Conservative Citizens during its national conference in Montgomery, where it protested its designation as a race-driven "hate group" by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

The Montgomery-based Southern Poverty Law Center classifies the Council of Conservative Citizens as a hate group. During the group's national conference in Montgomery, members protested outside the law center's headquarters Saturday, with some waving the Confederate battle flag. "There is nothing hateful about those people that I've seen," Wallace said Monday.
The Council of Conservative Citizens says it opposes interracial marriage, massive immigration of non-European and non-Western peoples, hate crime legislation, and multicultural and "Afrocentric" curricula in schools. While in Montgomery for its conference, members attended activities at the Capitol marking the birthday of Confederate President Jefferson Davis.
Mark Potok, a spokesman for the Southern Poverty Law Center, said the council grew out of the White Citizens Councils, which fought integration in the 1960s. He said those attending the group's conference in Montgomery included a former Ku Klux Klan grand dragon and other white supremacists.

1. I find that kind of surprising
I thought Junior was a decent fellow. I guess I was wrong.

2. So What's The Damn Point?
Don't those people have a life. They need to understand that the 60's are gone... or at least watered down. This is 2005, and the world has changed.

And what exactly would they classify as "massive immigration of non-European and non-Western people?" 10, 10K, 100K???

They claim not to be a hateful group, but they oppose hate crime legislation? Lol, that one is hilarious.

I guess this shows us what a better man George Wallace Sr. is/was than his son. Gov Wallace had the guts to stand up later in life and admit his faults and the agenda behind them... I guess his son doesn't have the courage to do it.

3. What's Jr. up to these days?
Must have some scheme for power and/or money behind this. I read that a close advisor to Roy Moore spoke as well. Nary a hateful person was there ole junior said. Unfortunately hate is coming back in style - and not only in Alabama.
