Hey Zell, Stay The Hell Out of My State!!!
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — In 1999, former Georgia Gov. Zell Miller visited Alabama regularly to help Democratic Gov. Don Siegelman. Now he's coming back to help Republicans raise money to whip Democratic legislators.

The Alabama Republican Majority Committee is holding a $250-per-person fundraising dinner June 24 in Birmingham with Miller as the featured speaker. Committee spokesman Leland Whaley said the group hopes to clear a six-figure sum to contribute toward its goal of having $6 million to help Republican legislative candidates in the 2006 elections.

When asked about Miller's visit Friday, Siegelman said he didn't get concerned when Miller served as the keynote speaker for the Republican National Convention last August, but it's a different matter when he starts raising money to defeat Democrats in the Alabama Legislature.

"When Zell went to the Republican National Convention, it was because he believed — as I and many others do — that the National Democratic Party was too far to the left. But you can hardly say that about the Alabama Legislature," Siegelman said.

Democrats currently hold a 25-10 lead in the Senate and a 63-42 margin in the House. The goal of the Alabama Republican Majority Committee is to help finance enough Republican candidates to give the GOP its first majority since Reconstruction.

Shit this makes me so mad I don't know what to do... honestly, I'd love to.... well, __________________________ insert what you wish. :grr:

1. He should be ejected from the party.
Too extreme, perhaps? Force him to be something else while he advocates for the Republicons.

3. It's Just Always Been That Way
Local Democrats do pretty well in AL. We dominate the House and Senate.

And now we have a cynical old bastard from your native Georgia trying to screw it up. But I bet your glad when he leaves the state aren't you?

5. Oh yes, a little piece of me dies inside every time he leaves!
:sarcasm:

I permanently wrote that bastard off when the DINO co-sponsored the Federal Marriage Amendment, the only Democrat in the Senate to do so. As a gay man, as one of his constituents, and as a Democrat I just couldn't get past that, and I would have seriously voted for his Republican opponent last year if Miller had run for reelection. I wish he would leave permanently, though I wouldn't wish his presence on any real Democrat. I just hate that he's stirring things up for you guys next door.

I just really find it strange that someone can constantly vote red in national elections but then vote blue in state elections. Not that I'm complaining, mind you--I'm glad that you have a relatively progressive state legislature--I just find the voting patterns interesting, is all.

6. Democrats control the legislature primarily because of the
Alabama Education Association. If Repugs ever work out an arrangement with Paul Hubbert and Joe Reed, the legislature will be Republican in the next election.

Can that happen?

Money is powerful and Hubbert and Reed love power and money.

4. If Zell Miller has that much influence...
outside of his state (let alone inside it), especially in a state with dem majorities in the state house & senate, enough that the tide would be turned in favor of repukes, well, maybe that state's voters are too dumb and deserve what they get. But I would say that about any red state, or for that matter, the whole country. If they believe anything BushCo says, they are allowing themselves to be hoodwinked. So I say let Zell Miller come here too, because if we buy the crap they spew, we are too stupid for words.
