Wow, this is the harshest LTTE on Bush I've ever seen!
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 02:58 AM by Syrinx
I wish he hadn't seemed to condemn all Christians, but I admire his moxie.

Dear Editor: “W" Bush has once again shown his true colors -- he is no president nor politician; he is a divisive puppet, a lame one trick pony. To the nation’s highest court he seeks not a judge, nor justice, but an agenda, and he nominates a fellow brownshirt who shares his extreme, ignorant out of the mainstream views. While crying religious persecution, he and his amoral Christian ilk promote a religious agenda of intolerance, bigotry and hate. “If they can’t convince you, they’ll force you" is the new Christian battle cry, and Bush’s nomination is yet another thumb of his nose at mainstream America. His whole regime, and the Christian movement in general, focus on the use of force and cultivation of division and hate. They have no other “weapon." Hate is all they offer. How we allow such scum to occupy the highest office in our land is a cause for shame and embarrassment. We must stand up to them now, and show them how out of step they are. This is not Iran. At least not yet -- it’s up to us.

10. no, it was a guy that writes a lot of letters
If I'm not mistaken, he's real big on promoting atheism. I'm more of an agnostic myself. But I agree with him on Bush!

4. peace to you as well
I just wish the writer had not seemed to condemn Christianity as a whole. I'm with him on Bush and the phony, hateful "Christians", but I know some mighty fine Christians.

:hi:

13. did you read my post?
Edited on Fri Jul-22-05 04:17 AM by Syrinx
Obviously, Bush and Falwell and Robertson, etc. aren't "mighty fine Christians" (I don't think they are Christian at all, despite what they spout), but I know personally many good people who call themselves Christians, plus a lot of nationally-known people on the "Christian Left."

There are "mighty fine" Muslims too, despite the fanatical terrorists, too. Do you deny that as well?

Peace to you.

19. No, I think that you misunderstood me.
I'm with you. (Shrub, Falwell, etc.) I was just agreeing with the point you were making about there being "mighty fine" Christians, as well. The imposters give the TRUE Christians a bad rap. That was my point. Maybe I wasn't clear enough. Oops. No offense meant.

Peace.

16. I don't think he was condemning all christians, just those that are
part of what he calls the "christian movement". Personally I think there are 2 types of "christians". The real christians who aren't trying to turning this country into a theocracy and the crazy fanatics who are. From my reading of this letter it appears that is the distinction he is attempting, rather unsuccessfully, to make.

17. A friend of mine said to me last night
that if you have to constantly tell people that you are a "Christian", you probably aren't.

He also asks his fundie acquaintances "who would Jesus bomb"?

18. It is certainly harsh
Unfortunately I doubt it will have any impact -- not in Alabama. Republicans and independents who might be having second thoughts about Bush might respond to a more thoughtful letter, but once they read his comments about Christians, they will write him off.

20. Exactly.
Whether you agree with the author on Christianity is the main focus point! Not good in Alabama at all. It won't work. To polarize what he believes to be "the mainstream" versus 88% Protestant Alabama? What an idiot! His message was strong, and I agreed with a lot of it, but his methods are wayyyyy off track.

This is not a way to convince that 62% to come to our side.
