1. I was going to post about this
You beat me to it. I don't suppose it's open to the public, but I'd love to see Howard speak.

2. Is It Open To The Public?
I'm heading up that way on Wednesday anyway. I'd go a day early to hear Dean.

3. Democrats to campaign aggressively in state, Dean says
(Perhaps there will be a more complete article later.)

The national Democratic Party will wage an aggressive campaign for votes in Alabama during the 2008 presidential election, party Chairman Howard Dean said today in Birmingham.

“We’re never going to give up on Alabama again,” Dean told members of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. The national party put little effort into winning votes in Alabama last year in the face of Republican George W. Bush’s popularity.

Dean also said the Democratic Party is working for better health care, a balanced federal budget and economic justice.

“We are not going to win by pretending to be Republican-light,” he said.

4. Where Will All of The Money Come From?
Money has to be spent on New Hampshire, Ohio, New Mexico, Florida, Iowa, etc. that there won't be much money for us.

I'm all for giving $ to Alabama- but I also want to win. Are the Republicans flooding Massachusetts and Rhode Island with their money? I doubt it.

5. here's a longer article
*snip*

Speaking at the downtown Sheraton to the Southern Christian Leadership Conference's annual convention, Dean said that in the wake of the civil rights movement, Republicans used racially tainted wedge issues to gain popularity with Southern whites who traditionally had voted Democratic. In 2004, Republicans put gay marriage referendums on the ballot in more than a dozen states where gay marriage already was illegal.

*snip*

Fighting hunger, ensuring equal access to the vote, providing health care for all, and producing balanced budgets are moral issues, Dean said. "It seems to me it's a moral value not to pass on to your children more debt."

*snip*

The party is hiring four full-time employees dedicated to Alabama who will work with the state party to organize and run candidates despite the odds. He doesn't necessarily think the Democrats will win Alabama back with the next presidential election, but he does think the party has a good chance of recapturing a key state slot.

"I think we can win the governor's race," Dean said.
