Red though it is, our State is very special

Our State is unique. We love each other, yet one day of the year, we hate each other. On that one special day in November, my wife, three brothers, even my own dear Mother flip me off. And I flip them off right back.
I’m referring, of course to the Iron Bowl. You see, I yell “War Eagle”, and they yell, well, the other thing.
I’ve lurked in other State forums in the last week. I even started a thread in the Ohio forum after Texas beat OSU(yawn). With no exception was there even a hint of a sports rivalry.
Yes, there are other rivalries in the NCAA and NFL. USC/UCLA(surf’s up dude), Michigan/Ohio State(bitter yes, but interstate), Texas/Oklahoma(ditto-oops sorry), Denver/Oakland(OK, that one is REALLY serious, at one time, unfortunately, fatal).
But ours is a special. Brother vs brother. Husband vs wife. Mother vs child. DUer vs DUer.. The Alabama forum is rich with State politics, true, but unlike any other State forum, is also rich with our own one day Civil War.
It’s been said that in the South, football is second only to Christianity. I don’t know about the rest of the South, but in Alabama, they’re running neck and neck.

10. I was at the Alabama/Arkansas game yesterday

14. It's the first time I've felt real joy in a long time

I've been obsessed and stressed with the hurricanes. I have a NG buddy that was in NO for a couple of weeks doing disaster relief and he saw dogs eating corpses. He's an Afghan vet and this bothered him more. The game was a great break from the PTSD. I indulged my inter Redneck by singing "Hey Hogs! Rammer Jammer, Yellow Hammer." :-)

It's been a stressful time lately. I have a cousin who is a cop, and he was assigned to go out to New Orleans to help with the recovery. He has told me some truly harrowing tales. I thought about posting them here, but they're so terrible I decided not to.
