Pat Dye Field
Isn't it interesting that Auburn named their field for an assistant to Coach Bryant?

Just saying.

1. Well, the Syracuse fans must find that interesting
A field named after a man who would rather go for a tie in the Sugar Bowl than a win. Good old Pat "Tie" Dye. Heh.

2. I remember "Tie" Dye well
Unfortunately. Poorest excuse for a coach we ever had, after Terry Bowden of course.

3. I don't like any of the Bowdens
And I realize that Bobby Bowden was a candidate for the Alabama job when Coach Bryant retired. And that we probably would've been a lot more successful since if that had happened. Still I'm not sorry he wasn't hired. Something about that family I don't like. Not on the scale of the Bush family or anything, but still, I just don't like them.

10. Couldn't have anything...
...to do with "sanctimonious hypocrisy" now could it?

13. I don't think I'm sanctimonious, at least by DU standards
And I don't think I'm that hypocritical either. Perhaps you will enlighten me.

14. Not on your part,...
...referring to the Bowden clan, specifically Tiny Terry and Diddy.

9. Then you evidently...
...don't remember Doug Barfield very well.

And I know you don't remember the fellow that preceded Shug.

Dye was directly responsible for some of the best teams that have ever played at Auburn ('83, '88, '93) and without him, Auburn might still be playing the Iron Bowl in Bama-ham every year.

To call him the "poorest excuse for a coach we ever had" seems off-the-mark.

8. I remember...
...that never-was Lee Corso getting on Dye's case for that game.

Dye's response? "Well, if Lee Corso had a few more ties on his record instead of all those losses maybe he'd still be coaching football instead of just talking about it on television."

11. Point(s) taken.
However, I'm too young to remember the Coach who preceded Shug. Gawd, it felt good saying that:rofl:

12. I never saw him either...
...but think about this:

Over the last 55 years, you know how many football coaches Auburn has had? You can count it on one hand. Five. Five coaches over more than a half-century.

Of Jordan, Barfield, Dye, Bowden and Tuberville, it's pretty easy to see where the weakest spots are. Look at the length of their respective tenures for indication.

This stat also speaks well of long term program stability. It certainly looks a lot more steady than having, say, 10 coaches over that same 55 year period.

15. Field Name...
I'm just thankful they didn't want to name it Jordan-Hare-Dye stadium.
