4. Leg injury
He had a pretty severe-looking leg injury in the Alabama/Florida college football game yesterday.

2. Will do.
Season-ending injuries are a bummer. I hope he comes back okay next season, and that his pain is minimal.

3. What a shame.
That was the first time I'd seen him play. What an athlete! I don't think that I've ever seen a receiver with his abilities, and I've been watching football for forty years. He even took what had to be a painful injury with stoicism and class, pumping up the crowd as he was being carted off the field. Impressive young man, to say the least.

I sincerely hope that he comes back 100% as quickly as possible.

5. A horrific injury.
ESPN has shown it over and over, always with a warning to "look away if you're squeamish".

Coach Shula said it was an open fracture of both bones.

My best wishes go out to Tyrone Prothro for a speedy and complete recovery.

11. yes
I taped the game because I had a good feeling about it (in terms of winning). I've watched it from my tape over and over, out of morbid fascination, I guess. It's certainly enough to make your stomach do a loop.

I know Prothro has a good doctor... Les Fowler, he's the same surgeon that put my arm back to together once... my arm still hurts when the barometric gets low (no joke, my arm was killing me during Katrina), but otherwise I can't complain. All hope to Tyrone.

6. Everyone watching just groaned (even an Auburn fan) when he went down
I was impressed at how tough he was. That looked like a compound fracture.

8. Thoughts and prayers for Prothro from this Auburn fan
That was a horrible injury - no one wants to see a kid hurt like that. I loved watching him play, and hope this hasn't ended his career.

10. Not likely
It will take a long time for him to recover from that, if he ever does. Prothro depends on speed and an injury like that can really hobble him.

Joe Theisman never returned to play after his horrific broken leg.

12. here's a couple of pictures to explain
Here's the the actual moment of his injury:

And here's a picture of a leg. Tyrone Prothro broke both his tibia and fibula.

Prothro landed on Gators cornerback Demetrice Webb and broke both the tibia and fibula. Television replays could churn your stomach.

"He's like, 'Man, I think it's broken,' " said receiver Keith Brown, the first person to reach Prothro. "And I said, 'I already know.'

"It just killed me. I really couldn't think after that."

It left "an empty feeling," Shula said, and cast a pall over the Tide's first win over a Top 5 team at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The team gathered in a prayer while the medical staff hustled a cart onto the field.

The student section chanted Prothro's name as he waved to the crowd.

19. A plea for kindness
Hello everyone. I would like to make a respectful request. I was wondering if it would be possible to have the picture of Prothro's injury removed as gesture or respect for Tyrone and his family. I understand that the reason it is probably posted here is to give detail as to the extent of the injury, but I feel that it could be explained nicely with just the skeletal picture. The cart picture if fine but I feel that the actual injury pick is to horric and in bad taste. I know that you do not have to remove this but most all other boards have made it a rule not to allow this picture to be posted. Not just this picture, but I feel it is disrepectful to post horrfic pitures of any atheletes injuries. I wouldn't want the Vol's Allen injury or any other to be posted either. Just is just my humble opionion.

Thank you very much for considering this request.

And I don't really understand all these comments about the photos in the papers. I don't think it's disrespectful to represent visually what happened. But I will voluntarily remove the photo from the 'bucket so that it will no longer show up here. (you may need to clear your browser cache to keep it from appearing on your monitor)

14. He's in our thoughts
A co-worker of mine is a Florida grad (crazy to find two SEC grads in one office here in Ohio). after I gloated, he asked about Prothro. Like everyone else who hadn't really seen him play, he was impressed.

Get well soon, Prothro.

Hopes AND prayers. As I said in another thread, LTspouse is an RN at DCH Med Center in T-town. There was a steady stream of Tide players and well-wishers all weekend. For privacy reasons, she can't tell me any more than we hear from the media. Helluva football rivalry we have, but we Alabamians take care of our own when the chips are down. Godspeed, Tyrone.

They said they put a steel rod in his leg. Prothro hinted at a Heisman next year.

The doctors said that Prothro had an infection, and that he would be in the hospital for another two weeks. THey had to replace the rod they put in his leg.
