Siegelman Sees New Indictment

Former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman (D) said he expects to be indicted by a federal grand jury, but “it won't stop him from running for governor next year,” the Decatur Daily reports. Siegleman also predicted that “another indictment could help him with Alabama voters.”

This guy has truly losing his grasp of reality, but it should make Baxley's road to the Statehouse a bit easier.

I don't see how this possibly could help. From my experience, Alabama voters expect morally upstanding public officials. It seems to me that Siegelman's legal troubles doomed him in the first place.

A politically savvy colleague offered the opinion that politics is all Siegelman knows and he needs it like an addiction. He sees no future in anything else.

5. Indicting Siegelman would be a mistake

The U.S. Attorney's office in Birmingham has a poor track record so far. They indicted Siegelman once and was acquitted. They indicted Richard Scrushy (former HealthSouth chairman) and he was acquitted.

Seeking high-profile indictments like these usually has to be approved by Washington. Hard to imagine they would go along with popping Siegelman a second time without a rock-solid case.

8. I will support Siegelman

over Baxley. He, IMHO, is the better candidate. And was and will be the better governor. Riley went after him over no bid contracts but yet Riley says nothing about haliburton. Riley voted for bush's tax cuts in washington but came home and tried to raise our taxes. Someone needs to take Riley down and I believe Don is the only one who can do it.
