70 congressional districts where GOP running unopposed (2006)
From PDAmerica e-list mail:

If You're Still Asking, "What Can I Do?"
By Rita A. Weinstein of WA

Can you believe it? The following is a list of 70 congressional districts where Republicans are running unopposed.

It's possible that in some of these districts, Democrats have stood up as candidates since the list was created, but this is what PDA is all about. Where Republicans are unopposed, democracy is critically endangered. If you live in one of these districts, you, too, can be an American hero. You owe it to yourself and to our nation's future either to become a candidate or to help identify someone willing to run. If a Democrat has declared their candidacy since this list was created, now is the time find out who your candidate is and acquaint that person with your PDA chapter.

Want to take our country back? This is how we do it. This is where it starts. If you're not sure which district is yours, you can find out at http://capwiz.com/pdamerica/dbq/officials /

I googled our districts and found this map.

Now, where is the lady whose son ran against Aderholt? We have some work to do. I'm in Lauderdale County and will help any way I can.

3. As a born/bred Florentine myself
I take some comfort that North Alabama is still at least titularly Democratic, with Bud Cramer. Does he have a serious challenger for '06?

What gives with the Gerrymander in the 6th? That looks highly suspicious.

The idea that there are 70 Repiglicans running unopposed is just plain depressing. That's the goal of redistricting: make the incumbents untouchable.

4. The 6th isn't gerrymandered
It's the 7th that causes it to look that way. The 7th District is the black majority district. To achieve a black majority, they add the black neighborhoods of Birmingham, which is why there is an arm jutting deep into Jefferson County that the 6th wraps around.

2. Mike Rogers is running free right now.
If I were 25 and rich, I'ld run against him. Anyone know of any ambitious 25 or older folks in East/Central Alabama? Contact Joe Turnham, for the love of God. After being the deciding vote on CAFTA, he needs to be taken out.

6. District 1....
News brewing there will be a strong challenger to Jo Bonner. Can't confirm who, but might have a darn good shot. Will report when official announcement is made.
