It's funny to me that I can post a light-hearted comment that is actually self-deprecating (for me as an Alabama fan), and then have Auburn fans come at me with rudeness and sarcasm. Don't they teach about self-deprecating humor down on the plains? Or do you just not care? Maybe your handle says it all.

...I'm just as likely to make fun of Bobby Lowder, or Auburn's antediluvian conservatism, as you are of your recent "success" with Mikey at the helm. Auburn has it's share of problems.

But bragging about championships not recognized by the NCAA ain't one of them.

By the way, how's that grad rate going for the football team?

The grad rate is going up under Shula. The rate stands at 67%, and while I admit that isn't great, it's an improvement, and is actually higher than the rate of the student body as a whole. Fourteen Alabama players in the Cotton Bowl had already graduated. DeMeco Ryans had graduated in seven semesters. Charlie Peprah already had his Master's degree. One-hundred percent of Mark Gottfried's players have graduated -- except those who left early to play professional basketball.

I can understand why Auburn folks don't brag on their football national championships too much. You only have one. I think it was in 1957. Alabama has twelve. 1925, 1926, 1930, 1934, 1945, 1961, 1964, 1965, 1973, 1978, 1979, 1992. We've had seven since you had your one.

No division 1-A football championships are officially recognized by the NCAA, because there is no playoff system in place. But would you deny that Texas is now the national champion team?

And no I don't think I'm particularly touchy, but it does irritate me a little when I jokingly make a good-natured (and as I said, self-deprecating) comment and I get scornful sarcasm in return.

I have good friends that are Auburn fans, by the way, and not one of them, to my knowledge, is misanthropic.

To tell the truth, after some reflection, I guess I am the oddball here.

I enjoy rivalries and all, don't get me wrong. But in the end all that stuff doesn't amount to a hill of beans.

Auburn is currently dominating Alabama in football. Hopefully, from my POV, that will change soon. Alabama is dominating in basketball. Auburn is dominating in swimming and diving. Alabama in gymnastics.

Let's just try to agree on one thing. Republicans will be the death of us all if we can't.

(I remember I used to have an Alabama/Auburn jokebook when I was a kid. If you opened it from one side, it was all Auburn jokes. The other side was all Alabama jokes. I wish I could find it.)
