BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — A Democratic candidate for Alabama attorney general denies the Holocaust occurred and said Friday he will speak this weekend in New Jersey to a "pro-white" organization that is widely viewed as being racist.

1. It is Larry Darby.
He is a racist, antisemite, anti-gay rights athiest and total wack job. He is the guy who looks like a little like Truman Capote. When I was running the gauntlet down Dexter Avenue trying to get to the state archives during the Mooreument debacle, Darby was the little funny guy on TV every night wearing a safari hat. He had slipped my mind right about Hurricane Ivan time... Now it appears he has even had a voice on APTV during their candidates' specials. He was on about a week ago. It was amazing! He has to be the wackiest libertarian (if he even is one) in the world. He claimed the three boys in jail for the church burnings to be in some sort of ADL/SPLC conspiracy to either do the deed or else to keep it covered up. Amongst other things he advocated were the rounding up of all immigrants in MS, AL and LA. His speaking on homosexuality made Roy Moore sound like a card-carrying member of the HRC.
He was sorta funny during the Moore spectacle, but now that he is running for a public office, he is downright scary. At least during the MooreZeit one always wondered if a crazed street camper would pull out a bag of rattle snakes at the people trying to get to work or else begin speaking in tongues. This guy is no longer funny. Can the party not revoke his credentials?

2. the chairman says...
Edited on Sun May-14-06 01:18 AM by Syrinx
The state Democratic chairman, Joe Turnham, said the party began an investigation last week after hearing about some of Darby's comments in a television interview.

While the party supports the free-speech rights of any candidate, Turnham said some of Darby's views appear to be in "a realm of thought that is unacceptable."

"Any type of hatred toward groups of people, especially for political gain, is completely unacceptable in the Alabama Democratic Party," said Turnham.

It is unclear whether the party could do anything at this point, although the party could decline to certify the results should he win.
