Wanted: Musicians who will play for free
Yeah, so I know that doesn't sound too appealing, but let me tell you about the event. Peace Takes Courage is going to be holding a Southern US Peace Protest at the Alabama State Captiol. The event is going to be advertised towards teens and young adults, but we are welcoming people of all ages. We plan to advertise this for the next few weeks and hopefully have a pretty big turn out. We already have several people who have volunteered to help out, but we are looking for local bands that will play at the event for no pay - we don't have money. No pay doesn't really attract many people, but all the proceeds that we raise at this even are going to go towards the "save darfur" organization, so it's all for a good cause. Let me know if anyone is interested or if anyone knows a band or musician that might would do it for us.

Thanks everyone!

1. Hi Ava!

Glad to see you in "Alabama."

I'm not a musician, so I've ruled myself out. ;)

The first name that popped into my head when I read your message was Will Kimbrough. He used to have a band called Will And The Bushmen that played on the strip in Tuscaloosa all the time.

Here is how he describes one of his recent songs, "Act Like Nothing’s Wrong".

But he’s a Christian! He prays to Jesus to help him decide what to do. He doesn’t need to read the news when the divine hand is on his shoulder. You just don’t have any values so you can’t understand letting God tell you what to do. Life is sacred and we will kill anyone who doesn’t think so. It is His will. God loves US the most. We are more lovable.

He's a busy guy, but he's from Alabama, and very much against Bush and the war. So it might be worth a try contacting him. Here's his website.

And if you really expect a good crowd, go for the big guns: pursue Emmylou Harris. She's a famous Alabama liberal. Check her donations to Howard Dean. (Dean's not really that liberal, but he's perceived as such.)

Good luck, with the event and in general. (It's a tad ironic that WK's old band was called the "Bushmen." Ha.) :hi:
