Mobile DUers: Anybody up for LTTE's disputing Register's Bush endorsement?
Alternately, you can tell me what the party breakdown is like down there. Usually in the South (I'm in SC), the coastal cities are more progressive and the papers try to follow suit. On the other hand, Savannah's paper endorsed Bush, too, so whadda I know?

As the fools go so far out on a limb as to endorse Bush "enthusiastically," this shouldn't be much of a strain to rebut.

1. The Register is the WORST
They are so far to the frickin' right it is not even funny! Mobile and Baldwin Counties are the heaviest Repub counties in Alabama as well.

3. Mobile is one of the most conservative areas of the state
They have an "old south" concept of themselves. The Register reflects that concept and the conservative viewpoint.

5. Doing very well, thank you!
I was wondering about you the other day. We haven't crossed paths on DU in a while.

I mentioned to Skinner on a thread yesterday that I will need to change my user name to Stuckinthebushnomore. I guess you can change yours to Montana - assuming Dick will be going home and not to jail!

6. Mobile is...
...a complex and maddening section of the state. In a state that's already conservative, Mobile is moreso.

Strangely though, it's close relationship with Mardi Gras and the Catholic church gives it a more casual attitude toward alcohol abuse than the rest of the Alabama.

Basically, Mobile is a Creole town that went "redneck." It has an almost identical history as New Orleans, but it's culture took a drastic turn to the right when the British assumed control for about a twenty-year period in the early 19th Century.

I still say that as Branson MO is to Las Vegas, Mobile is to New Orleans.

Just a few years ago, a public official who was summarily forced from town called Mobile "the last great plantation." He's right.
